Why's batting without helmet considered such a brave act? I mean isn't it foolish not to use a protective gear when it's readily available? Imagine that bouncer thudding into Pwnting's skull, peole would still be applauding his so called bravery? I don't think so. Yeah batsmen of the past batted without helmets but that was simply because it was not available at that time..if any modern day batsmen who opts not to use helmets should not wear abdominal guards or pads (I believe those gears aren't mandatory either) to show they truly are a fearless breed!

In that Sharjah match it was 56 degrees in tyne middle, insane heat, drinks breaks every TWO overs for both those Sharjah tests. Bowlers were bowling short spells, very short spells unless it cooled down a little. 2nd test was very insane heat, 3rd test was a little cooler but still way too hot to wear a helmet all day.

But, Viva Richards and Sunil Gavaskar did have a choice to wear helmets. Sunil Gavaskar was repeatedly told by Dennis Lillee to wear a helmet else it could be dangerous but Gavaskar said he was uncomfortable with one.

If you brush aside the fact that Punter is one of the worst arrogant C0cks of the game of cricket' date=' you cant but admire at his unbelievable skill as a batsmen, especially when facing fast bowling. Inzamam's name always comes up when the discussion is about the batsmen most adept at facing high quality fast bowling, but Punter's not far off either.[/quote'] IMO Ponting is way ahead of Inzaman facing fast bowling. In fact I dont even understand why Inzi's name is taken in that context. He has an absymal record outside the sub-continent. On the other hand, Ponting is a treat to watch

Remember RobeIndia? The Sami one didn't look as bad as the one against Harmison at Lord's even though he wasn't wearing a helmet. On topic, Sultan Zarawani didn't wear a helmet against Donald in 1996. :hehe:
We all know what happened next!

I am interested to see whether these brave guys did get out there without a box' date='[/quote'] I think there's a story about that as well. It involves Mohinder Amarnath I think. Not entirely sure though.

who wears seat belts and helmets in india :giggle:
Not many do. But the point of driving/racing is not to show ones bravado without helmets/seat-belts. The point of driving is to come first
