Rightarmfast Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 Number of gold medals won by India in the history of olympic games: 9 Number of gold medals won in track and field events: 0 you dun goofed son. To think a tiny nation like Jamaica will probably win 9 gold medals next olympics. Indians are just genetically inferior when it comes to being athletes, no hate at least you are probably more intelligent. Aah, so somebody copped out...Instead of coming up with the answers to my questions, u chose to escape with some records which suit your motive:--D ! You can still check for the answers which I asked on the first place...!:giggle::giggle::giggle:
akshayxyz Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 How come I missed this gem of a thread. There must be as many people of similar genetics as there are in Pakistan. And yet Pakistan produces pacers quite regularly - it is a different story that most (today almost all) of them lose their way somewhere down the line. Indians have far too diverse gene pool to be generalized. So - Indians are not naturally born to bowl fast - is bad generalization. More of a sign of submitting to the bad governance/guidance at grass root levels. Africans and Caucasians might have slight genetic advantage over others, but pak has given enough examples of non-afro, non-Caucasians - bowling as fast.
akshayxyz Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 I tell you problems in India with fast bowlers. The biggest problem is lack of work ethic and working on fitness. Look at Zaheer himself, he has been overweight since ages but playing and getting injured in every series. But second problem is even bigger that is mentality regarding fast bowling. Firstly we do not have fast bowlers who can bowl fast, they try but does not have it in them to bowl fast, Vinays, Narwals, Unadkats, Aravinds, Pankaj, Praveen come in this category. Then there are bowlers who do not want to bowl fast because of lack of work ethic and fitness. These kind of bowlers are happy what they are doing. RPs, Munaf's come in this category. These 2 category bowlers play most of the match and they are sure shot whenever the get selected they will be played even after getting thrashing after thrashing and bowling without any venom. Then we have bowlers who can bowl fast and want to bowl fast but our captain is resisted to play them because he says they do not have line and length. But Kaun samjhaye hamare kaptaan ko ke pace and line and length do not come together. A genuine pacer will always err in his line and lengths, but as he gets exposure he can rattle best of the batsmen with his pace and can be an impact bowler especially in Test matches in any condition. Our captain does not think that even our line and length bowlers are not bowling line and lengths then what is the benefit of that so called line and length. This thing is not just there in our national team. It is there at all levels of cricket. Even at our local club practice session bowlers are scolded whenever they try to bowl fast and err in line length. This attitude does not let them go for pace and develop their fast twitch fibers and instead they try to bowl line and length at a slower pace. Fast twitch fibers develop from young age and only when kids try to use them in bowling fast, they develop fast, but if they dont use them, they dont develop. Spot on. And even if some youngster starts out bowling at some good pace, he is not able to maintain the same over longer period - because of lack of work ethic. Also, our youngster's have no precedence to follow either. - which is very important to inspire the young crop. In batting, they have SRT, Gavaskar, Sehwag, Dravid etc. to take inspiration from. But none such in Bowling, fast bowling to be precise. When you have no example to follow, the mental block gets compounded even more when your current lead bowler ( ZK ) comes out passing such negative statement. Some young rebel, who is mentally as tough as SRT/Dravid - who can work religiously to break established beliefs - is our only hope. combined with some coach/talent-hunter - who works with a positive mind set, in finding and grooming young talent. As for fast-twich fibers, they are always there - you can work on them whenever you want to - but yes, you have to start early to get time to develop many other aspects too.
asterix Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 All you need is a role model..Hope a genuine quick bowler gets chance to play for India and does well. In the process motivates many upcoming youngsters..
akshayxyz Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 We do not have a role model (from Indian history) - which is why we see the comments like ZK's., We need a good coach.. the problem is, when some youngster starts out bowling fast - he is bound to be erratic, at that time we need the coach who can teach how to control w/o dropping the pace.. as of today all of them are told to drop the pace to gain the control.
The Outsider Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 Of course, India is one of the most unathletic nations in the world. It's probably not genetic, but it does not change the fact that Indians hardly pursue any sports as a lifestyle or hobby. Look at our colleges and universities - except for a few, none of them have half decent athletic facilities. To play a game of squash in India, a civilian has to fork out hundreds of rupees. Most local parks and grounds in cities have been encroached upon by all sorts of people. There is cow dung littered in these grounds. I can't remember the last time I saw a game of hockey being played casually in one of these grounds.
