SachDan Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 No place for Sachin or Viv, couldn't care less. However, I have left out any innings in which the team score was less than 150 with no more than 4 wickets lost. For example, 120/1, 145/4, etc. I didn't get this part :hmmmm2:

Its one thing to moan and whinge on the internet, another thing to actually sit down for months and create it from scratch yourself.

I think from 2010 - one of the Laxman's expolits from Mohali, Colombo, Durban could have been included. Sachin's innings at Capetown could also have ranked higher. But overall - don't have much trust in all these lists derived from some quantitative formula. Give me same quantitative formula, I'll tweak it in a way that at least few of Sachin's innings are there. Give it to Vijay Sharma - he'll get atleast 10 of Sachin's innings in top 100 :winky:

ganeshran Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 a list which is compiled by assigning arbitrary weightages to certain factor can certainly highlight who performed best when applying a set of conditions, but can not be considered as hard facts since you could considerably impact the list by altering the weightages. That being said, its the personal opinion of the author which he is entitled to.
Vijay.Sharma Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 I think Anant Narayan has something against Sachin...I have noticed this in many of his columns. He doesn't leave a single chance to pass a sarcastic one at Sachin. There was once I wrote to him asking how on earth could a 4th innings performance against Waz, Waq, Saqi, etc of 136 not make it to his top 100 but a 3rd innings 129 against Donald, McMillan, Mathews (all were kids still) can. I listed down the various criteria he said the rating was based on - state of match (including innings, number of wickets down, partnerships) state of pitch (runs p wicket) quality of bowlers number of partnerships batting with tail etc etc And I pointed out that there is hardly much of a diff between Kapsy's 129 and Sachin's 136 that one of them is ranked in the top 75 and the other is not even in the top 100. The reply I get is something like - "I know I need to look at it again, Sachin has surely had some great innings since the exercise...his 241 at Sydney definitely is great" O well. But the good part is Anant is a fellow kapsy bhakt :--D If Viru's 201 coming in the first innings of Test is rated in the top 10 I seriously don't see why the 136, 169, 103*, 155*, 119*, etc, etc, etc cannot be in the top 100. I agree with many of his top 100 but I just get the feeling he has removed Sachin by design somehow Edit - if we can include Lax's 167 in a losing cause then how about Sachin's 50th cent against Steyn. Even his 51st cent was great
