One of my relatives owns a rice mill and he gets even small payments atleast 3-4 months after the promised date. Same with a friend who recently started freelance software work. But as far as the CWG is concerned, there is a corruption probe going on. A lot of foreign contractors were promised inflated sums in return for kickbacks. All those contracts would be verified again.

I dont think so, but while an inquiry is going on, its difficult to release payments. the government should take steps to reimburse the vendors not involved in the scam ASAP and then investigate the ones who did. Shouldnt be so difficult to identify given the massive overpayment promised in their contracts. Some of the material was rented higher than the purchase price.

I think the main issue is about working with Indian Govt. When it comes to Private sector there is no dearth of confidence in investing in India and working with Indian companies. The gap between private sector reliability and government reliability is so high that it is unbelievable. But at the same time I don't have much sympathy for those foreign companies that pay bribe to get things done. It's only the ones that are caught in between for whom I feel unfortunate. But I guess we have to bear the bad press in order to set the house in order.
