He was ruled out for the third and fourth Tests and the NatWest one-day series because of an abdominal strain, but he has proved his fitness in the Challenger Series in Nagpur and also Mumbai Indians in the Champions League Twenty20. Limited options Options are limited for the selectors to choose from; there are only two off-spinners — Harbhajan Singh and Ashwin. The selectors have to take a call because India is scheduled to play four Tests in Australia, two T20 matches and the tri-series with the tour set to start with two warm-up games in mid-December. Harbhajan took 20 wickets at 16.75 in the home series against the West Indies in 2002, but his record in Australia is far from impressive; nine wickets in four Tests at 73.22, with eight wickets in three Tests at 61.25 having come in the last series four years ago. An anxious Harbhajan, who is just two Tests away from reaching a milestone of being capped in 100 Tests, must be hoping for a recall, but so would be Ashwin looking for the big break in Test cricket. There's an opportunity for the selectors to try him out against West Indies which is trying to rebuild and struggling. Even if Bhajji is in top form i am not sure he would succeed in Australia.Finger spinners hardly enjoy any success there even Murali was rendered ineffective. Even though Ashwin is an off spinner he is a bit different with his action and also with his height the bounce he could extract might be vital too.So its essential we try him in the west indies series.If he does well then should be 1st choice for Aus tour
