BUMP Another failure for Gauti. His stats for the last 2 years now read 19 tests, 953 runs@28, no 100s, even worse than a struggling MSD has managed. Surely thats more than enough of a run for a player struggling for form. He clearly needs to go back to first class cricket and find his batting form again. Has got ito a habbit of throwing away too many starts. Additionally, the wretched form would also mean that the selectors will find it difficult to make him the captain if they decide to replace MSD with a new captain.
It will depend on how he does in the ODIs because the next test series is 7 months away - that's how our selectors tend to pick teams. His ODI form have given him a longer run actually.

Yeah, I hoped that 80 at Sydney would mark a turnaround but it was clearly just a one-off innings. No question that he deserves to be dropped based on form - two years is far too long to perform so badly. Not sure it will happen though.

Are we going to see a massive re-jig of the team post this series ... Dravid' date=' Laxman, Coaching Staff, Ishant, GG, ... who else?[/quote'] In most countries, after eight humiliating defeats in a row, one would expect to see wholescale changes but I would be surprised if anything changed in Indian cricket, particularly with the next Test series so long away.

The way he has got out hopping to bouncers in the last 2 tests suggests a massive chink in his technique. He should be encouraged to find a county side that wants him for the first class matches.
Tamasha league and then the ODIs in Lanka this summer so an FC stint in England is unlikely...and by that time his pathetic Test form will have been forgotten, anyway (and the same goes for the rest of this feeble batting line-up).

He alongwith most Indian batsman have developed a problem with patience and concentration to play long innings .. most of them are concerned with middle over ODI scoring rates and hence try and take a little chance here and there playing cheeky shots even in test cricket and hence causing their own downfall... both our openers fail to that only today. India needs a completely different test batting lineup than the ODI team to change the mindset

^ On top of that' date=' there is a serious chink in his technique. He is back to playing away from his body, like his earlier days.[/quote'] I dont know about that ... he seemed to have rectified that in ODIs .. even in Australia ODIs he was playing better trying hard to leave those cheeky shots. He left a lot off martin today but couldnot resist going with that one. One bad shot and he paid for it.

The reason it looks rectified is that in ODIs, the line of attack would not be the same as it is in tests. You won't have 3 slips and a gully waiting. If you check his dismissal modes since the Oz series, it's similar to what it was today. Playing away from the body with the head falling over and not covering the movement.
