I think they did similar thing, when they announced vsEng squad, in the middle of the series/match against WI...dropping few names who were playing in the ongoing series.

Technically speaking, Pujara is ahead of Kohli. If he's fit, then his Ranji performance should have been monitored and he should have been drafted. also, looking at Kohli's inning yesterday, I am still not convinced of his prowess as a test match player.
