Sony's rumored 'lens cameras' turn any phone into a point-and-shoot

yFXhyG0.png After leaking ultra-low fidelity images last month, Sony Alpha Rumors has uploaded the first high-resolution photos of Sony's new wireless "lens camera" series. The lens cameras are essentially a lens, a sensor, and all of the accouterments needed to take a photo in a single package, such as an SD card slot and a processor. The cameras will reportedly click onto smartphones, and will connect wirelessly to allow the phone's display to work as a viewfinder. DSC-QX100_DSC-QX10_InSituation_01_Xperia-Z-1200_zps932fca38_medium.jpg According to Sony Alpha Rumors there'll be a range of such cameras. The one pictured at the top of this article will feature a 10x zoom f/3.3-5.9 G lens with a 1/2.3 inch 18-megapixel CMOS sensor. Expect performance on that to be similar to Samsung's Galaxy Camera. The top of the crop will be a little more special, however: it's based on the lens and sensor found in Sony's superb RX100M2. As previously reported, the high-end accessory will feature a 1-inch 20.2-megapixel Exmor R sensor and an f/1.8 Carl Zeiss lens.

Android VP Hugo Barra has left Google for Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi

Google’s VP in charge of Android product management is reportedly leaving the company for Chinese cellphone maker Xiaomi. All Things D reports that Hugo Barra recently tendered his resignation at the company he joined in 2008. All Things D's report suggests that Barra had been in a relationship with a Google employee who is now seeing co-founder Sergey Brin, but that that the relationships are unrelated to Barra's resignation. Barra had become an increasingly public face at Google, featuring more prominently at its annual I/O developer conferences. Xiaomi has only been making Android phones for the Chinese market for the past two years and despite its brief history has already taken a leading position in the country’s mobile market. Earlier this month, Macworld reported that Xiaomi’s shipments had already surpassed Apple’s there, citing figures from Canalys. Update: Google has confirmed that Barra has left, saying "We wish Hugo Barra the best. We'll miss him at Google and we're excited that he is staying within the Android ecosystem." The second part of that statement seems to lend credence to the possibility that Barra will indeed be headed to Xiaomi — or at least some company involved with Android. It's not yet known who will be taking over Barra's duties. Update 2: Hugo Barra himself has announced his departure on his Google+ page, confirming that he will join Xiaomi as a vice president, with the intent to expand the Chinese company's business globally.

:two_thumbs_up: that'l be really sad. Nokia still makes some of THE best devices - good design, great quality and fantastic cameras. If only they would go to a more popular OS, Nokia can still beat the hell out of Samsung/HTC/Sony etc in smartphones.

No company can really match their hardware, but it is the software they have been lacking and that is due to Microsoft's inadequacies of not developing windows fast enough.
