ShebbySB Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Other than Assam who plays in the plate division of Ranji no other state from nort-east takes part in the domestic season.Sikkim,Arunachal Pradesh,Mizoram,Meghalay, Manipur or Nagaland none of them plays cricket.Tons of young men from these states plays soccer & they dominate the I-League clubs.With mongolid genes they are as acrobatic as anyone & who knows we will get an express fast bowler from their one day.BCCI should look into this & involve these states into cricket.By this way we'll have a larger pool of talents in future.

saneindian Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Tripura also plays in the plate league. Meghalaya , Arunachal and Nagaland were granted membership of the BCCI a couple of years back. May soon see them play in Ranji. BTW states like Bihar, Uttarakhand and Chattisgarh don't have a ranji team yet. Need to give them a place first before going to the smaller states with very limited cricket infra.

the_indian_fan Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 we need to create a 3rd division after elite & plate in the ranji trophy & have these smaller states play in that championship, something like the minor counties in england a 3rd division with bihar, chattisgarh, uttarakhand, north-eastern states, andaman & nicobar islands & lakshadweep will be useful for the development of cricket in those regions. who knows, we might find some 150+ kph bowlers there. its the smaller state players like umesh yadav(vidarbha), abu nechim(assam), varun aaron(jharkhand) who have been impressive recently. and with the 3rd division, it can help the raw talent from those areas as well who knows, maybe within 2 years, we can find some express 150+ kph fast bowlers from places like andaman & nicobar islands :D

Is there even any club cricket in Lakshadweep? I guess the six NE states, those three states in the middle, and the six union territories should have a club cricket structure first. And then UT (Union Territories) might be one complete team picked from the best of the six UTs. The issue here would be a lack of common culture, like the states experience. But that is okay, they can function as an ROI team, and it's better to have some exposure than NO exposure. /

And also standards need to be maintained, you just can't have 11 guys walking in with bats and balls. They should have played and performed at some level to start with.

Things will improve only if Raja Venkat is replaced by someone else as the selector from East Zone. Having Raja Venkat is like having two selectors from the South Zone.

There are cricket associations too but they are fighting with each other for affiliation from BCCI and BCCI does not know to who to affiliate. http://www.nationalschoolofcricket.com/ This is a fantastic stadium surrounded by hills in Dehradun and flood lights are there as well. Last year, a ranji match between UP and Maharasthara was also supposed to be played on this ground, but not sure why that did not happen.

Raja Venkat is more Kolkatan than anything else. He was brought up in Kolkata and played cricket for Bengal only.
