Yeah true, but that doesn't really matter. Technically, he should know East Zone cricket as well as anyone else from the zone.

But Srinivasan & Co backed him to continue for another term.

Is it played at a decently competitive level? What happens to the star players of these leagues? Do they move to neighbouring states to further their prospects? Did someone like Manish Pandey learn his basics in Uttarakhand only? Did he play any club cricket there?

Yaar, Uttarakhand players are aavailable for selection for UP team by BCCI, but the politics hasnot let that happen yet. One of Dehradun fast bowler Raj Singh was selected for UP ranji team in 2008 if I remember, but was never played a single mach and was then dropped without any reason. Uttarakhand players are allowed to give trials in age group or ranji trials for UP. MY younger brother has played University cricket at national level but had to give because of no future of cricket in Uttaranchal yet. Manish Pandey though was born here in Uttaranchal but was not brought up here as his father is in Army and they sued to travel different places. Same case was Dhoni who is from Uttaranchal originally and is a Kumauni.

I remember another thread in ICF where same problem was mentioned for Bihar players who try to play for Jharkand.

BCCI politics is like national politics ... and they have political reasons to retain Venkat I guess. Some quota issue must be where Venkat must have taken a favour and still owes a favour to someone. Selections of fringe players happen on the basis of votes, and the vote politics takes predominance before any selectorial meeting.

The problem with Nechim now is that he's not even in the TOP 20 bowlers of the Plate League this year. Unluckily for him, he has only got to bowl in 6 innings (with two 5-wicket hauls) out of the 5 matches he's played, while other people have taken far more wickets than him. Now when the selectors sit with the stats, the guys taking more wickets than Nechim will naturally get more importance, and the fact that Nechim could only get 6 innings will not be paid heed to. Unless they want to consider his T20 performances, which is quite unlikely in zonal selections.

I agree with the idea of a 3rd division where all the minnow states can participate. The ranji in it's current format is extremely restrictive and supports only the major centers of the country.
