ViruRulez Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 ^^ with windows 7 or without it... makes a big difference in the cost often .. without windows you might even get a good i5 2nd gen but maybe only a i3 with windows 7 HP (starter and basic versions are not the best) .. if you are fine with Linux etc. then you can go for an i5 within that price

Thanksss If you have already budgeted, and vendor too, then fir kya sochna.. filter karo and pick the best configuration...you can post the alternatives here and we can tell whether and which one is absolute nono... It would be difficult to find a good configuration w/o windows. non-windows laptop are usually low configuration.. perhaps there are few in 30K range. Btw - if you have any friends in Dell - then you can get very good configuration at highly discounted price...He will have to place order for you.

akshayxyz Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 UK/Europe prices are costlier than that in US/India. And between US and India - US prices are cheaper and you get more variety, better configuration for same amount - and even cheaper deals in holiday season.

Your warranty wont be valid...not worth the headache if anything goes wrong. :headshake: Plus you will get it cheaper where you live...just keep looking for deals. The holiday season is here!

Malcolm Merlyn Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 US/Canada is much cheaper I just asked my friend to bring a laptop for me.Got a great deal I7 6gb ram 1 gb Ati Radeon 6770 graphics card and a bluray player.
b555 Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 well i was in a similar situation dont get windows 7, as in let the laptop have only DOS, install win7 after u get it .. this reduces the cost factor i went for acer 5755 500gb internal hdd, i5 2nd generation, 6gb ddr3 ram , no graphic card, 1 yr international warranty all these cost me 33,000 i hope thats not a bad buy for 33k

Infact, in Taiwan etc. it is cheaper than even the US. Electronics prices are quite ***ed up in India and it is not the best place to purchase them if you have other options.

akshayxyz Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 ^ If you are into s/w development or designing/publishing ( photoshop etc)... then screen size, and especially screen resolution becomes next biggest factor after RAM and CPU. once you get used to 1920 x 1080, you just cant work on 1368 x 768 displays.

Ram (can be easily upgraded later too) - 4 GB 3. Graphics card - 256MB to 1 GB (good to have depending upon your need) 4. A good screen 5. A fast hdd like 7200 rpm or SSD (if offered) Other imp features: 1. Reasonably fast WiFi card - 'N" for example 2. Bluetooth, if required 3. Webcamera, if required 4. HDMI out (very convienent if you need to connect your laptop to TVs as it imports both video and audio) 5. USB 3.0, if offered The things below are more on personal taste and needs: 1. DVD RW or Blur ray or nothing (if you use the flash drive and/or download) 2. The size of the HDD, i.e. 128GB or 750 GB or .... 3. screen size: 13" or 17" 4. extended warranties 5. fast ports like firewire or thunderbolt So, if someone writes: I hv or want an i7, graphics card, fast hdd, high resolution anti glare screen, .... ----> it means something if someone writes: I hv or want: 17", 500 GB, windows 7, dvd rw, etc ----> you are not focusing on the right stuff .... in this case, you could just go to a big box store and pick something up
