Still cutting it very thin, though, especially with the worries over Zak breaking down.

Well he should bowl at some point in the game.

he is fit im sure.. and we need him no replacement is as good as ishant is he seems ti be getting lot of things right pace, length just needs to stay fit get through this series im sure this series would be turning point for him mithun ,vinay are not even as good as 50 percent fit ishant!

Even if Ishant was to somehow be fit for the first test, it will be too much of a risk to have him and Zak in a 4 man attack. Out of Vinay and Mithun whoever bowls well in the ongoing warmup will most likely play the first test. Or going by Vinay Kumar's recent interviews, perhaps he has been told he is the one who will play.

Wonder why Weenie Koomar is not playing in this match? Is he already assured of a place in the first test if Ishant is injured? Dhoni has a great preference for Koomar/RPS type of trudlers. If he does play one hopes he gets royally thrashed like he was in the first practice match. It will save Indian cricket from serious long-term damage.

He might come out to bowl. In any case, we can't risk an injury to Koomar on an important tour like this.

Didn't you read Koomar's classy interview. What's happeing in Australia. Guys who are not sure of being in the playing XI going around giving interviews:
Vinay Kumar not worried about pressure of playing in Boxing Day Test By ANI | ANI 4 hours ago Sydney, Dec 19 (ANI): Vinay Kumar, who is expected to replace Ricky Ponting's nemesis Ishant Sharma if he is unfit, is not worried about the pressure of playing in the Boxing Day Test. Kumar will bowl to David Warner, Phillip Hughes, Usman Khawaja and Ed Cowan in the Chairman's XI match and is likely to be on standby to make his Test debut if Sharma is unable to play on Boxing Day. There are rumours Sharma's troublesome left ankle is requiring cortisone injections and could be so serious he will be sent home early. "I don't think there's pressure for me, my job is to go out there and play to my strengths," said Kumar, who cites the spectacular debut of South Africa's Vernon Philander as inspiration.
