Number Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 HYDERABAD: National Selection Committee chairman Krishnamachari Srikkanth on Monday expressed confidence that the Indian team would do well during in the Test series in Australia starting on December 26 despite the injury concerns of some players. "Don't worry. I think every team has injury problems. Everybody has problems. I don't think we should have any cause for worry. I am very confident this team will do very well in Australia," he told reporters. He was speaking after calling on Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, who was a cricket player. "It was just a courtesy call. I know the Chief Minister. We played cricket together. It was nice of him to give an appointment. It is a great feeling to see a former cricketer becoming the Chief Minister of a state. He was a fantastic wicketkeeper. I wish the honourable chief minister of Andhra Pradesh all the very best. I am sure he will take great care of Andhra," said Srikkanth. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/series-tournaments/india-in-australia/interviews/Nothing-to-worry-on-injury-front-in-Australia-Srikkanth/articleshow/11171036.cms Reiterating that Ishant Sharma will be fit for the opening Test at Melbourne, chairman of selectors Krishnamachari Srikkanth on Monday said that reports of the pacemanÃÔ injury and the plans to name a stand-by are unsubstantiated. "Everything is fine with Ishant. All news (of injuries are) false rumours," Srikkanth informed The Indian Express. Sourav Ganguly, on Sunday, had fuelled speculations when he said that Bengal seamer Ashok Dinda was all set to fly Down Under as a back up for Ishant. http://www.indianexpress.com/news/Everything-is-fine--says-Srikkanth/889916/

MCcricket Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Ishant, Zaheer still not match fit: Akram Friday, December 23, 2011 New Delhi: Former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram has raised concerns over Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma's fitness, insisting the two Indian pacers have not bowled enough in the run-up to the Test series against Australia, starting on December 26. With the Indian camp keeping the fitness updates on Zaheer and Ishant under wraps, Akram said the conditions in Melbourne will reveal chinks in the Indian armoury on Day 1 itself. © AFP "Until and unless you bowl 15-20 overs in a practice game and do rigorous nets, you are not fit enough to go into a Test match. I am not sure whether Ishant and Zaheer have done that in the warm-up games," said Akram. With the Indian camp keeping the fitness updates on Zaheer and Ishant under wraps, Akram said the conditions in Melbourne will reveal chinks in the Indian armoury on Day 1 itself. "Whoever is carrying an injury or niggles is surely going to be exposed at MCG. The wickets are hard and the outfield very demanding. Hence everyone has to be in peak fitness. The news from the Indian camp doesn't seem to be very convincing at this stage," Akram told a website. The fitness status of his two leading pacers is set to leave captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni a worried man ahead of the first Test in Melbourne, according to Akram who will part of the commentary team Down Under. While Ishant has bowled a little over nine overs in five days of practice games, Zaheer has bowled a total of 15 (10 + 5) over two innings, not enough according to Akram. "MCG wickets are so hard that they will take a toll on your body joints, especially the back, groin and ankle. You cannot afford to go into a series-opening Test match with 90 per cent fitness." PTI Good observation, I hope bowlers stay fit, very true about bowling atleast 15 overs in an innings, lets hope they warm up , play entire series, our replacement bowlers are crap.
Old guy Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 hmm akram is kind of right but thing with zaheer is he is improving u can tell his conditions is improving so he will get better by the time match starts ishant even im concerned abt him i think track is green and conditions will help bowlers he is very important bu i think he can play vk on this track and get away with it we are lucky that it isnt a flat track lol
Blue Panther Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 His selection is like his batting. Very inconsitent. No respect for pace bowling.
FreakazoiD Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 What irritates me about this guy is he always makes vague statements like "Have trust in this team, they will do well" or "We have great players with great records, I'm sure they will bounce back", without ever getting into anything more insightful. Sounds more like a politician than the chief selector. His commentary on DD used to be equally rubbish with no cricketing insights whatsoever.

He played two ranji games and bowled about 50 overs. in the last one he bowled 21 overs http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/522963.html
