Sometimes stats don't tell you the whole story. While both Tendulkar and Laxman have similar avgs' date=' they look a world apart form wise.[/quote'] how come? you remember all 20 innings?

Well said. What's the point of Tendulkar's form and ppl going over the moon over his form and timing when all he does is score 30s and 40s. It's 9+ tests since he had a major contribution. If Laxman is criticized then Tendulkar should also get his fair share of the blame. After all you don't get any style points for looking good and only the runs you score counts, no matter how they come. I would rather see an ugly 100 from any of the batsman than see another "oh so beautiful" 30 by SRT again.

What is a major contribution ? Sachin scored 91 in last test against england , important 70+ while chasing against windies in the first test , 94 in the third test , good knock at mcg in the first innings as well , got starts in the other two innings as well but wickets kept falling at the other end . Dont think he has been failing for 9 tests as you say .

My point is Laxman has averaged similar to what Tendulkar has in the last 20 innings or so and has got lot more criticism. Tendulkar may have scored couple of 90s but overall in the larger context he hasn't done much. Most of the time he looks good but gets out in 30s and 40s. In Tests 30s and 40s don't win you matches, big scores do and he is as guilty as others for not doing much against Eng and Aus. He had an ideal opportunity this test as he was batting when the pitch had settled after lunch but failed again.

The only batsman who can hold his head high over the last two series is Dravid in the England series. Otherwise they have all been rubbish and its pointless debating who has been slightly less rubbish than the other. Tendulkar needs to be converting these 30s and 40s into hundreds like Dravid was in England.

Spot on. Only Dravid showed up in England and nobody did in Aus. Both Laxman and Tendulkar were nowhere to be found on these important tours and their legacy, especially Tendulkar's, will take a serious hit. In fact there's a very legitimate argument of Kallis being a better batsman that Tendulkar. Forget SRT better than Bradman, right now I doubt you can even argue he has been better than Kallis who averages 57+.

Fact is in the last 14 innings home or away Sachin Sehwag Gambhir and Laxman have combinedly scored a single century. That was VVS 150 in Eden Garden. This is pathetic form from our whole top order excluding Dravid.

VVS time is over Every good time has 2 come to an end. So is Laxman time. Good luck 4 your future mate :two_thumbs_up: Hope not 2 see you again on cricket field playing for India. Don't ashame yourself and Team India, by playing in at Adelaide, which won't gain you anything but can gain another youngster a nice little experience. You have served well 4 India for a long long time. Have a good time ahead :icflove:

South Africa was "home" :woot:
Laxman scores on the last SA series where he is believed to have set the world on fire: 7 & 8 at Centurion 38 & 96 at Durban 15 & 32* at Cape Town So total of 196 runs at an average of 39.2. And somehow, that solitary performance at Durban has earned him enough brownie points to survive two 4-test series failures.
