zen Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Imran In his last 5 years or so of his career, Imran avg 60 with the bat Richards In his last 5 years or so of his career, Richards avg only 42 with the bat 1987-1991 Notes: * both debuted in the first half of 70s . * Imran successfully adjusted to the standards of late 80s, going on to average 60 in that period. * Richards avg dropped to 42 in that period showing that he could not adjust to the late 80s. Since he could not adjust, he cannot be considered as an ATG. He only did well when he was at his peak and against lower standards vs late 80s. * In the twilight of his career, Imran averaged as much as Richard at his peak. * Richards was forced to retire while Imran got requests to come out of retirement. * In 1992, Imran helped Pak win the ODI WC. While Richards was only left with the memories of 1975 and 1979 wins and had to look at Imran holding the cup. * Richards wasted his after-retirement-life doing what? We don't know. While Imran helped Pakistan by not only entering politics but also building a world class cancer hospital. Based on the last five years or so of their respective career, esp. with standards improving, we can safely conclude that Imran > Richards as a batsman. In terms of bowling, there is no competition. Richards is not even an ATG as can be seen from how he failed to adjust. PS In the twilight of his career, Richards could only muster a few laughs from shots like these: oU2iQPCwHcQ
BeautifulGame Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 lol who comes up with these genius logics. Frankly anyone who thinks Viv is not an ATG is not worth debating with because that means they are just pretending to be ignorant.

akshayxyz Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 If you want to narrow the window to those 5 years, and Imran indeed out-averaged by 18 runs.. then I don't see why anyone would disagree, Imran was better test bat in those 5 years.. But it is foolish to judge their overall careers (between these two), based on only 5 years.

Imran 37 innings (20 in sub con) w/ 11 not outs Richards 55 innings (49 in Aus, Eng, NZ and WI) w/ 4 not outs :winky:
akshayxyz Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Making most of suitable conditions is also an aspect of good batsmanship, that includes staying not out. It is subjective how much weightage one wants to give on that. So, you will have to come up with number of metrics before looking at their stats, and then see who is placed where. Key is how one can come up with metrics and appropriate weightage w/o being biased.
zen Posted January 4, 2012 Author Posted January 4, 2012 ICF Test Trolling: BBhai >= Akshayxyz :hysterical:
akshayxyz Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 ICF Test Trolling: BBhai >= Akshayxyz Trolling is trying to get a rise out of someone. Forcing them to respond to you, either through wise-crackery, posting incorrect information, asking blatantly stupid questions, or other foolishness. However, trolling statements are never true or are ever meant to be construed as such. Nearly all trolled statements are meant to be funny to some people, so it does have some social/entertainment value. Since OP is not supposed to be a troll, at least one of the above highlighted must be true - about OP.

Key is how one can come up with appropriate metrics though.:winky:

There is hardly anyone on ICF, who takes OP seriously. But you seem to be in privileged league to understand the deep meanings.... or may be a case of two bodies one soul. However, rest of us are still amused what all could have gone wrong with OP - childhood abuse continued into adulthood (biological) , few congenital disorders, come to mind - but we are still in the process of collecting evidence, as current medical science is not yet sufficiently equipped to deal with such statistical outliers. As of now, we humbly accept limitations of science at this stage, you are advised to pray to gods of your elite church - until we find a cure.
