The importance of Sehwag-Gambhir up the order

Yes our middle order hasn't been scoring big along with our top order but for me the real difference why we haven't done well as a unit in test cricket is Test. Sachin and Dravid and Laxman have been scoring throughout the decade. Sehwag-Gambhir though up the order since they have come together, they have made a huge difference. There good starts have been converted into big scores by our middle and lower middle order. I think thats where we have lacked in past couple of test series. Either they have not scored or they have been out with injuries. I won't say our middle order depends on them. It's just that it needs it's support. It's perhaps not the right time to prise the past achievements but one can't deny that they are the one who need to deliver in order for us to achieve same heights which we achieved in past 5 years. Gambhir-Sehwag pair is the real deal for Indian test cricket. If they are failing, let's just live with it and wait, because thats all we can do. There is no better one to replace them.

^I do not think this one can be waited out. Esp with Sehwag, his hand eye coordination is the thing that makes him great, it will fade with age it may well be better for him and India if he is at 5 where the ball does less. For GG it could well be a case of asking him to go back to Ranji cricket. Mukund and/or Rahane are ok, it is not like the 90's when we had to see guys like Somasunder open (admittedly that was ODI's but still...)

the way Gambhir plays, i dont think he is going to succeed while opening the inning.. he plays those 'dab and run' type of inniings with lot of cross batted shot and away from body dabs.. it wont work with the pacers and pitch that they got..
