Sehwag needs to go

Is that a joke?
It is not. A lot of times when Sehwag had taken a risky shot, he has gotten out eventually putting pressure on the lower order pointlessly (as pointed out by 'srtfanaticssuck' in the post above). On the contrary, had he slowed down in those innings and blocked a lot more balls, India would have had a better and a more solid start than what they had. Sehwag lives by the sword and dies by the sword, so when he lives, we applaud; and when he dies, a lot of times he takes us down with him.

strike rate is also very imp for example if it wasnt for sehwag against england we would not have been able to chase what 380-390 and in last test vs west indies if it wasnt for him we would not have even went for win... he scored run a ball 50 and others still werent able to get target also when he scores quickly bowlers confidence is hit.. and they start bowling defensively batsman can other end can get set and play long one.. more over when u score quicker u give urself more chance to bowl opposition out we dont play for draws we play for wins.. and when ur playing for draws sehwag isnt the best man.. even in that situation he may produce good innings like he did vs south africa (triple hundred) and was able to give u lead in quick time! and south africa were demoralized
I would put it this way - Sehwag had been instrumental in a lot of our victories, but has been disappointing in matches we needed to save. And India is still a country which needs to save a lot of matches when it is playing against Aus, SA, Eng etc in their backyards.

Rett' date=' I understand the importance of VS's contribution and the effect of his mere presense to the team. But there are games and situations where you can almost never count on him. For example in that Capetown Test last year we had to almost play out a day to save the Test which we had almost no chance to win but a loss there meant losing the series and the No.1 ranking. In that situation VS was the least reliable and as it turned out GG,RD,SRT,VVS all dug in and saved the day for us and in hindsight the series and No.1 Test ranking.[/quote'] Are you implying every batsman is perfect? Sehwag is what he is because of how he plays. Don't forget how he helped us win the game against Eng .... Also his 150 odd in Australia Or that 100 at Kol against SA, which set SA on the backfoot when they were 1 up. Sehwag assault helped demoralize the bowlers and help others in the team to get a good score and Bowl SA out to retain the #1 rank ..... He was also instrumental in helping us win in Pak and a test in SL against murali and mendis ..... Also at melbourne not many supported his great performance of 195 ..... So it works both ways Also don't forget the test against Pak where he was doing well to help ind draw the game. He got run out and others folded

Without a doubt no batsman is perfect. But some are less perfect than others. If you do an analysis between SRT, RD, VVS and VS and look at their 1st inning to 2nd inning performances there is a huge drop in VS's performances in the 2nd to a point that one cannot really count on him when a certain level of buttoning down is needed if we need to play out a session or two without taking the risks. That was my point. I will surely have VS in my team anyday of the week but overall I will take SRT, VVS, RD over him in Tests without an iota of a doubt. But that is moot since the other are middle order bats and VS opens. So.. We all can be happy.

So, we have all kinds (the best of them, actually) and still our overseas record is so pathetic. I shudder to think what willl happen when this perfect balance goes away :fear:

I shudder to think what willl happen when this perfect balance goes away :fear:[/quote'] thats cos of bowling and to be fair when these batsmen were here our record improved we are the 2nd best team after australia (touring) in last 10 years and now potentially we have some good bowlers in ishant and yadav and consistent one in praveen we should do fine if these guys can stay injury free and keep improving we might do well cos batting wise we are always strong and i trust kohli, pujara, rahane

These were a bunch of legends who have scored more than a lakh runs among them. All once-in-a-generation cricketers. And our overseas record is good comparitively, but objectively, it's pretty much :wall: The next generation is still good, but cannot better these guys. At least in Tests.

Looking at how ind openers hv been after Gavaskar and before Sehwag, Sehwag not doing well in 2nd inning is least of my concerns especially when some of his teammates have not done that well when asked to open or hv been reluctant to open. That probably shows what a difficult job he is doing and on top of that he has won ind so many games, plays at amazing (unheard of) sr which puts the opposition on backfoot, boasts of 2 triple and a 290, top 3 scores in Indian history, ..... he appears to be in the league of his own amongst his teammates. Its not only his sr but he also has the best avg despite fewer not outs! .... In fact he would be one of my first two picks from those who have played mostly since 90s, the other being Lara

@ saurav maybe we wont but i think bowling line would be ishant ,umesh potentially very good (yes we had some gr8 potential bowler before like sreesanth which was until now hasnt fullfilled his potential but has won us some matches ) and pk is consistent so bowling wise we are going up in last 10 years there was only zaheer who is world class, people like pathan opened for us bowling at 116... :(( and batting wise i think no man can have better stats then sachin, dravid, laxman, sehwag combined but still i think we will have a pretty solid batting line up with gambhir sehwag (atleast 5 more years) rahane, kohli, pujara with people like mukund there in domestic cricket i still think rohit hasnt proven himself yet so i really think in next 10 years we will win more also u need to take look at opposition other than england all the others team have gone down a bit and south africa hasnt won home series after they drew with england!

Ishant and Umesh are good prospects, but honestly, they are still not at the level of Srinath and Kumble. So I have seen a better attack than what we have right now. With Zaheer added to the mix, things might be better - but someone like Umesh still has a lot to learn and a lot to prove. Among the batters, I have always rated Rohit the highest. Kohli, Pujara, Rahane are all good talents, but they still have miles to go before we call them 'established' in Test cricket. I have seen a lot of talent falling away (people like Manjrekar, Kambli, even Aakash Chopra) who looked better in Tests than these guys, but they couldn't go far. None of these guys have got good starts either in Tests (Pujara played a gem in his debut, but that was the only instance). Raina got a great start, but he's squandered it somewhere, and if he can correct his flaws he can surely make a good comeback. The main point is, these guys look good but not exceptional (the way Sachin, Ganguly, Dravid, Sehwag etc looked when they started off).

idk pujara got injured he was looking good dravid ,ganguly had dream debuts.. but technically most of these guys look good better than all the other teams and ishant ,yadav..well ofc they gotta learn but thats not the point from wht we have seen form yadav that guy improves quickly wont u agree? compared to zimbabwe he was better against england now compared to england he looked much better against west indies and this guy is super fit so i think he will improve a lot in next year or so before west indies series his seam position was not as good as aaron but now his seam position in 2nd match was beautiful for out swingers that tells u this guy is very quick learner and ishant is still so young (i think he is younger than yadav) and has already got so much experince and he just looks like a better bowler now he knows himself now and conditions like australia south africa(last time he was bowling at 132 when he toured there with wrist position totally fu*cked up) even in england his spell in 2nd innings at lords was gr8 and now its time he starts bowling those spells more regularly against west indies in last test he beat the edge so many times! i think if he stays fit in australia he might win us some matches this time around :--D and we have been little unlucky with zaheeer imagine south africa w/o steyn or england w/o anderson (they werent able to bowl out sri lanka w/o him he is must for them cos he gets the wicket when they need him others support him)

Fast bowler ka fitness is very :nervous: See what happened to my favourite Shane Bond. He hardly ever played cricket. Was as good as any ATG, but who will ever consider him to be a great also. We need good fast bowlers by the dozen, and at this moment, it is not happening.

bond was as good as steyn.. enough said i rememb his spell against india in odi was bowling at pace in swinging it all wickets were beautiful to watch and we will never get them in dozens ishant seems to be fit enough he does not always gets injured and yadav like i said his action is clean and he is super fit ..so no fitness worries there unless there is a freak accident(u cant stop them) his body wont get injured much and india iwll never have many fast bowlers ..we normally play on patta tracks like people say here and itsn ot like we did badly its just that talents like sreesanth cos of his lack of sense, rp singh never really fulfilled there potential and we dont give chances to people like dinda and never persist with new fast bowlers like aaron..who are so much better than mithun and co even if he is raw..

Get a room guys, this thread is about ppl writing Sehwag is not an outlier and then getting proven wrong by Sehwag. (not abt Ishant and mithun) :P
