Yes, it is true that India were pathetic overseas (the way they are now), but they were an extremely good side at home. In the whole of the 90s, we have not lost a SINGLE Test series (we lost 5 Tests in all) in the country. On the contrary, we did lose 2 series in the 2000s at home (and lost 8 Tests in all). (one of these two series was a one-off Test [sachin's debut Test as captain] Also the series of innings wins were not really minnow bashing, Sri Lanka was a good team and won the WC two years later, and England were the WC finalists both in 1987 and 1992.
