Back to back 100s for Saha in the Duleep Trophy. Virtually shuts the door on other test hopefuls.
It really is a shame that the Duleep Trophy is not longer. It is a good level of competition and performances can be taken at face-value for international consideration. Unfortunately, with such a short period of time, a good talent could go unnoticed because of happening to fail when the Duleep Trophy comes around due to luck or chance or just a poor performance, which everyone is entitled to.

Haha. Actually Tiwary, Anustup Majumdar and Saha have been in fine form this season. All Bradmanesque averages. Dinda's average is Hadlee-ish :P
But despite that Bengal could barely avoid relegation to plate league :dontknow:. Though I can understand that Saha and Tiwary were away for good part of the season. Anustup Mazumdar produced towards end of the season only. However, Dinda has been consistent through out the season. I agree with above posts, Duleep trophy right level of competition suitable for main domestic tournament. But level at Ranjee, which is our main tournament, quality is not good enough. Saha should be given WK position in test matches as first choice. Let Dhoni enjoy his 112 meters in ODI and Tonty-Tonty. Ojha also showed good technique and temperament in dealing with short stuff.

Bengal was actually only one wicket away from qualifying for the quarters. They needed an innings victory/OR victory by ten wickets in the last match to win a bonus point. When they came in to bat in the 4th innings, they needed some 30-odd to win by 10 wickets, but umpire Sudhir Asnani apparently gave a controversial caught-behind and the first wicket fell. :wall: So, all the hopes of qualification went out of the window. The 2nd point is - though 3/4 players have performed exceptionally, the rest have been really SHYTE. There was no batting order to speak off. Ganguly rescued them in a couple of matches and Majumdar in the last match along with Laxmi Ratan Shukla. Also, Majumdar played only from the last Ranji league match (was not picked earlier) and has notched up 3 centuries and a half century in 4 FC games from then. But the pace bowling unit led by Dinda has been a good one.

My first impression of SAHA was he a good keeper but very slight in terms of physique , did not think he could bat.I am completely surprised at how fit he is, a fantastic keeper, very good team man, a very good batsmen with fantastic technique, surprise surprise can also hit shots all over and also clear the boundary and very good timer of the ball and confident.NO DOUBT I WANT HIM AS OUR TEST KEEPER, WITH GAMBHIR AS THE CAPT.

@mccricket.. don know bout captaincy ..tbh still think dhoni can do the job..but he needs to change his approach a bit his captaincy was a factor in losses but biggest one was weak bowling and old batting line up wont mind saha in test team though he is def better batsman then dhoni in tests

More... INDORE, February 14, 2012 East rides on Saha's majestic century VIJAY LOKAPALLY Wriddhiman Saha’s 170 put East Zone in control at the end of the second day in the Duleep Trophy final against Central on Monday. Photo: S. Subramanium Wriddhiman Saha played the leader. This time with the bat. His majestic performance of 170 stood out for everything that good batsmanship is associated with. The Bengal wicketkeeper-batsman literally shut Central Zone out of the Duleep Trophy final with a flawless display at the Holkar Stadium here on Monday. At the end of the second day, East Zone was in a position to plan the celebrations for its maiden Duleep title. Resuming at 88 for three, East Zone made 370 to establish a first-innings lead of 237 runs. Central would require a few stellar contributions to make a match of it. At close, it was 48 for no loss and to compound its woes, Vineet Saxena is unlikely to bat due to a finger injury. Motivator's role Saha played the motivator's role to perfection. Fourteen overnight, he carried the team on his shoulders. He was discipline personified, building an innings of quality, and then decimating the attack with enviable flourish. His was a towering show and reduced Central to a ragged side. As Saha grew in stature at the crease, the game drifted away from Central. East lost in-form Anustup Majumdar, 46 overnight, in the ninth over of the day. It was obviously a crucial stage but Saha ensured the grip was not lost. He scripted two partnerships that left Central frustrated. Saha's fifth-wicket stand with skipper Natraj Behera (46, 90b, 8x4) was worth 109 and then he guided Bilap Samantray (41, 99b, 6x4) in a sixth-wicket partnership of 87. Character on display It was a splendid exhibition of character by the 27-year-old Saha. Like a seasoned batsman, he did not spare the bad balls and later created some with his aggressive and innovative strokes. His drives on either side were exemplary and was rarely hustled into deciding what shot to play. Saha was the difference actually this afternoon. The 245-ball essay, with 25 fours and one six, was a lesson in commitment and execution of his desire to make history. Credit to Behera and Samantray for supporting Saha. Having done the good work, Behera showed poor wisdom when trying to cut Piyush Chawla at the stroke of lunch. He had no clue to the well-concealed googly. Samantray was trapped in front and a mini-collapse saw Shahbaz Nadeem, Mohammad Shami and Basant Mohanty perish in succession before a 45-run stand between Saha and Ashok Dinda stretched Central's agony on the field. Dinda clouted three fours and two sixes. The Central bowling was woefully short of ideas and direction. The bowlers, without exception, were guilty of spraying the ball and conceding easy boundaries when East was in the process of constructing its response. The scores: Central Zone — 1st innings: 133.
