ViruRulez Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Just saw an interesting thing in this case while checking TOI. NEW DELHI: The Indian father of two children who were taken into care by Norwegian social services has now told Norwegian authorities that he wanted kids to stay in Norway. The father, Anurup Bhattacharya, said that he fears that the kids might be handed over to their mother, Sagarika Bhattacharya, if they returned to India, according to NDTV reports. Earlier, he told a newspaper that his wife had a "psychological problem". Anurup and his wife Sagarika, who live in Norway, previously insisted that their children were taken in May last year because of a cultural bias against Indians and they enlisted the foreign ministry in their battle. Norwegian officials said that confidentiality prevented them from discussing the case, but they denied reports in the Indian media that the children, aged three and one, had been removed for reasons such as eating with their hands. "It was not just cultural bias that prompted the CWS (child welfare services) to act. My wife has a serious psychological problem," Anurup, who is now seeking custody of the children, told Tuesday's The Hindu newspaper. Anurup said he was speaking out after a row with his wife in which she allegedly attacked him, and that he had "concealed the seriousness" of problems within his family. His wife's version of events was not given. The revelation casts a new light on a case that drew widespread media attention in India, much of it highly critical of the Norwegian authorities, and calls into question the involvement of the Indian foreign ministry. Foreign minister SM Krishna had demanded that Norway "find an amicable and urgent solution" in returning the children to the family. Norwegian social workers have since agreed to place the children with an uncle in India. A court in the town of Stavanger, where Anurup worked for oil firm Total, must still take the final decision in the case. A provisional date for the hearing has been set for March 23. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Norway-kids-row-Father-takes-U-turn-says-mother-has-serious-psychological-problems/articleshow/12342552.cms So, it seems Norwegian authorities might not be totally at fault and there might indeed be some problems in that Indian parents. Perhaps they took the children for some reason after they found out psychological problems with the parents. Perhaps the hand-feeding story by Indian media is not completely true. Now the parents are going against one another. Interesting.
beetle Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Father lifts lid on Norway child row, blames wife The father of two children who were taken into care by Norwegian social services, sparking a diplomatic row with New Delhi, told a national daily on Tuesday his wife had a "psychological problem" and that he is seeking legal separation. Anurup Bhattacharya and his wife Sagarika, who live in Norway, previously insisted that their children were taken in May last year because of a cultural bias against Indians and they enlisted the foreign ministry in their battle. My wife has a serious psychological problem," Anurup, who is now seeking custody of the children, told Tuesday's The Hindu. "She is extremely immature, like a teenager really, and all this media attention has gone to her head. I tried to protect her and do her bidding. But last night was such a shock that I have now moved out and am seeking a legal separation," Bhattacharya told The Hindu. The only fact that is certain is that this man is a liar and his word can no longer be trusted.Shameless guy .
ViruRulez Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Now I am starting to feel that they were just using the race and minority card to get help from Indian government. I am not sure the parents can raise the children well. Their statements are keeping on changing and they are using racial card and Indian card for getting sympathies. Perhaps giving them to the grandparents or some other trusted relative would be more sensible.

Now the uncle doesn't want to take the kids. The kids are better off with the authorities that go to this effed up family.I only wish the authorities keep the siblings together. I won't be surprised if the guy is just doing this get a divorce.

anotherhawkeye Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 people judging others based on newspaper reports. We don't have all the stories. What else should base our comments on ? Newspaper reports are the best we have got...Even though toi is a piece of crap.
achilles Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Somethings amiss. A family that cried foul for a YEAR, ran pillar to post to secure the release of their children, made umpteen tv appearances.... they now suddenly turn around on their own word? Something is amiss. Maybe there is some kind of pressure on them.
Raghav_12 Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Wife of this guy definitely seems to be having some problem if you assimilate information coming from all the sources. Norwegian authorities had also pointed in that direction. However, this guy has to be shameless to talk like this (about his wife) in public after having a row with her. He might have put up with a lot but should havr handled it differently.
coffee_rules Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 http://in.news.yahoo.com/norway-kids-row--parents-now-deny-rift.html Now he denies rift..says media distorted the story. Now we can say, he doesn't need the divorce.
