Even if he wants to, he might be pressurized by the board to carry on for sometime as there's hardly any alternative. Gambhir would have been a good candidate, but he himself is looking sad. The retirements will obviously start happening from the NZ series onwards, one at a time. They may not want to talk about it right now, but it's pretty much understood. The NZ series is not going to be easy either; NZ has often performed well in India and the Indian bowling is nothing to be excited about. The last thing we need is a loss against NZ at home, and whether you like it or not, we need some experience there. What if they score hundreds of runs in NZ home series? Will all their sins be washed lol? What about next year end South African tour and then New Zealand, England and Australia tours? Would you carry same legends there? Isn't it necessary to give youngsters chance in NZ and England home series and make them ready for our next abroad tours, rather than giving these legends a nice winning farewell. Aur khuda na khaasta, if they again fail in NZ home series, then everyone in India will be like and world will be laughing on us. They will start giving examples of India just like we give examples of Bangladesh nowadays.

They are legends of game and they served the nation wonderfully well for decades and some bad performance of last 1,2 last years might not suffer their legacy in long run BUT still the way they leave the game does matter a lot for themselves, their fans and their generation-next team mates. Look It's been 20 years now but we still proudly remember how Imran Khan went but always feel bad about how Wasim, Waqar and inzamam went. Nobody questions their legacy but such last impressions leaves some everlasting sad memories to their fans. Not sure why they don't seems understaning (specially our Asian players) that taking retirement yourself when still you are on top of game and people want to see you more and more and fans saying "Please don't go, kuch time aur khail lo" is 100 times better for themselves as compared to extending your career for 2,3 years and leaving the game when you stop performing, you are on mercy of selection boards and people saying "Yaar khuda ka wasta hey ab to team ki jan chor do"... Huge difference

Huge difference Yes, here is the main point. Leave when you are on top so that everyone remembers your past laurels as well and respect them. Rather the time has come, that every news channel is cashing on this opportunity to criticize them and noone is caring about their past laurels. Now, it really feels that these legends has become the thorn in the flesh. If these players insist to play another series, then not many of the people would be watching them and tv ratings will automatically go down. People will automatically boycott them.

He said that-- We should wait till the end of the tour and should not lose our patience so early. India has lost only 4 matches and half the tour is yet to be played. They will come back in rest of the tour. Ab is patthe ko kaun samjhaye, Test matches are different and most important. Not true.It depends based on fans preferences.

If the Board had given any indication to Dravid or Laxman that they wont be considered any more for the team, I think they would have announced their retirement. From the look of things, the Board will wake up only if we lose at home...and that is happening for sure vs England this winter.

That will also finish them before our next Test series. They have been good to India for a long time but 8 consecutive failures have made it clear they are no use anymore.

With Dravid, Laxman, and Sachin in the team vs NZ, and IF they win, it will prove nothing and be inconsequential in the long term. With younger players replacing these buddhaos, and losing vs NZ, will it at least provide an indication that Indian cricket is in sh!t, and something radical needs to be done.
