Sooda Posted April 7, 2012 Author Posted April 7, 2012 ^ Good squad. Maybe Manoj T instead of Dhawan though. In tests' date=' Pathan can play as 5th bowler who can also bat 6 or 7, but not in as four front line bowlers.[/quote'] Yeah, thats what I am saying. Give him one 3 or 4 days match in WI and if he does not play so well bring in a 6th batsman
Magneto Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 Sooda secretly wants to be an Indian cricket team selector, but cannot be, so he spends half the time making all kinds of teams :hehe:

Sooda Posted April 10, 2012 Author Posted April 10, 2012 Not secretly :P Pathan You do not see the value of a decent allrounder clearly. You see it helps with team balance, having a bowler who can chip in with a few wickets and useful runs too, particularly with our weak attack, could be handy. Pathan is the closest thing we have got to one. This is an A tour, the whole point is to experiment.

I don't see Pathan as a test bowler for India in the future. Hence I think it's a waste to pick him.

Sooda Posted April 10, 2012 Author Posted April 10, 2012 I don't see Pathan as a test bowler for India in the future. Neither do I. I do however see him as an allounder, in a 5 man attack and batting at 7. Even Jadeja could be tried to that end, he could be useful in home tests
India-KXIP fan Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Here's my batting line up 1. Manish Pandey 2. Abhinav Mukund 3. Manoj Tiwary 4. Mandeep Singh 5. Ashok Menaria 6. Suryakumar Yadav 7. Uday Kaul
Ultimate_Game Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 I would like to see Mukund, Pujara, Tiwary, Unmukat Chand and the Jharkand opener who did so well last season but who was denied the Emerging Players spot due to Anirrudh Srikkanth's selection.

It would mean Dhoni batting at 6 in overseas tests. Great if you have an allrounder but I'm not in favour of creating one for the sake of it. Pick specialists. :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: Don't forget to add Gary Tiwary.
India-KXIP fan Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Manish Pandey is 22 give him a break, he needs chances, he has a good first class record and is an aggressive player.
Chandan Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Manish Pandey is 22 give him a break' date=' he needs chances, he has a good first class record and is an aggressive player.[/quote'] But is he an opener? Remember that opener is a specialist position in FC cricket/longer version of the game unlike T20 or OD cricket. You can't create an opener unless he is spectacularly talented like Sehwag. Sorry to tell you that Pandey is nowhere as talented as Sehwag as the comparison of their earlier years in FC cricket will tell you. So please, don't bring T20 performance for A tour selection. If you think he needs to be selected in India A, please tell us why, so that we can discuss its pros and con.
Chandan Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 When does the A team to tour WI get selected? Tour starts on May30th, hopefully the IPL would have ended by then I think?? Would be interesting to see if they go for an experienced side, or the likes of Suryakumar and Bisht Think we should go for an experienced XI, current squad players and give them some experience overseas- Mukund, Rahane, Pujara ©, Tiwary, Rohit Sharma, Saha, Irfan Pathan, Dinda, Pankaj, Apanna, Darekar S Yadav, Awana, Spinner Hopefully our next test squad will not look different on the batting front... Ltd Overs A team- Uthappa, Mukund, N Ojha, Pujara, Pandey, S Yadav, Menaria, Nechim Ahmed, Awana, Darekar,... I'll say choose Nachim instead on Pankaj and give Nadeem a shot too as he looks to be a wicket taker. Pathan is ineffective. Which swing bowler can be taken in his place? And Pandey? He has regressed terribly, even for limited overs.

Which swing bowler can be taken in his place? And Pandey? He has regressed terribly, even for limited overs. This is Manish Pandey's ranji season in 2011-12 before he suffered hernia and then had surgery. He scored his first Double hundred this season, averaging 134 in 3 matches. How has he regressed? Problem he is not a good limited over batsman, but he always scores runs in FC. MK Pandey 3 4 2 268 200* 134.00 345 77.68
Chandan Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 Just 3 matches? That can't be taken much into account. Did he play Duleep trophy? How did he do there? And what did he do last year, if we have to look into him. Just 3 matches can't be the basis, in which he seems to have succeeded in just 1 inning and failed in rest.

He didnt as he had undergone a hernia surgery. I think 3 matches are enough show his form in FC and they did and it is not like he only played these 3 FC matches. He has been consistently performing for Karnataka in Ranji Trophy.

He did and fared poorly as expected after the operation: scorecard Could have played other matches too, if you dig in. What about the previous season to find out his form if he was consistently doing well? Doing well in just inning doesn't evoke too much of confidence in me, frankly, to choose him for a A side. If you or anyone else is a fan, please post his Ranji and Duleep stats of 2010.
bulbul Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 8 629 44.92 (5th Highest scorer in Ranji that season and 2nd best for Karnataka) average is bit lower side..
