MS Dhoni might lose Test captaincy

No one will have the guts to drop Dhoni. There are too many corporate deals riding on him. Those companies will screw the board. In fact Srinivasan or Srinath will not touch Dhoni. CSK connection. The only way Dhoni can go is voluntarily, and that he will do after all the home series. Maybe things will change once India start losing at home too. And making Sehwag the captain. Simple case of 'From the frying pan into the fire'.
Totally agreed. Beggers the question - What guarantees Sehwag's spot in the team in the first place.

He should still be odi captain because he rocks in Odis. I will be happy if he continue in tests also as he is cool calm and confident and that is how captain should be. He is not over emotional like dada. Sehwag should not be captain as he does anything he want without thinking. Others are old and not interested. So we dont have choices. But I think seniors should talk to him about field placements tactics. Because that make us give away lot of runs for no reason many times.

in defence of dhoni, i think it's pretty clear that he is just a figurehead of a captain. he doesn't run the test team because he still defers to the seniors on matters of team selection. think about it - dhoni had absolutely no problem in abruptly ending the careers of dravid and ganguly when he took over the ODI team. he may not be a great test captain, but his ODI teams are typically good fielding sides and show more energy. but if he wanted to get rid of the old farts on account of crappy form, would be allowed to? i doubt it. there would be an uproar. the seniors are the ones that run the indian test team, not dhoni. he just shuts up, sets the field and plays the role of a bus driver by taking questions at the end of the game. this worked well when the seniors were doing OK, but when everyone fails and you need changes, its very difficult to go against their big reputations. this is in complete contrast to the way he works in ODIs, where he routinely uses young players, gives them the responsibility of batting higher up, bowling more frequently, drops himself down the order to selflessly accommodate. the result of this is a great ODI team with good reserves, capable of being competitive and winning even when 4/5 top players are missing. players that generally don't do well consistently are always dropped. compare that situation to the test team - where dravid retains his place after years and years of failure, where laxman cant be replaced even tho he looks like a walking wicket. even tho we are talking about two different formats here, you can see the difference in the way both teams operate - its almost like night and day. this is why i still have some hope for dhoni as captain. if he gets the job on his own terms and is allowed to do things HIS way and pick HIS team, we would have much better results. but this cant happen as long as all the seniors are around.

My problem is with his test application. He is as good a batsman as any in ODIs, but he must show some grit in tests as a batsman as well to lead by example and to inspire others as well but as a captain too he has become very laid back. Some times, it looks that there is no captain on the field and everyone is doing his own things. I can see Saha easily outdo him as a WK/bat in tests the way he played in the last test. Eight straight test losses is a disaster in itself when a test was lost in less than 2.5 days and change does not happen even after that it will show that the pain of loss and pride in winning has gone from the system and players.

After an year or so of having Saha in the team, give him the additional responsibiltiy of kaptaaani and then we would see how he does. MSD has done better than Virender Sehwag in the past 3-4 abroad tours. What application do we expect him to show when the team fails like 9 pins. And talking of his captaincy, after all the spat he got after the 2 tests, his captaincy on the 2nd morning of perth test went unnoticed. he was as good as anyone on that day.

Dhoni is still good enough to be in the Test team, even if he is removed from captaincy. I think he would be a better and more relaxed batsman without the pressure of captaincy. Cannot judge Saha as a batsman by seeing just one knock of 35. In the second innings, he was ordinary. There are no other serious contenders for the WK-batsman spot. Uday Kaul is the only other possibility but u cannot judge based on domestic performances alone as Dhoni is also a very good batsman in India.
