Predator_05 Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 He wrecked India today, but more importantly - he took the big wickets of Tendulkar, Dravid and Ganguly. These aren't your average everyday batsmen. He looks good enough to be a starter for England - he is pretty accurate, swings the ball, generates decent pace at times (although not as frequently as he did in his younger days) and can make the most out of good surfaces. His release is a bit awkward, a jerky action which makes him susceptible to injury...but other than that, he is the real deal. I still remember how he routed Pakistan under lights at the World Cup - that beautiful inswinging yorker which bowled Youhana still etched in my mind. The ball to Ganguly was another beaut which i won't forget anytime soon. He is easily better than Mahmood and Lewis and probably on par with Harmison. England will have one mean bowling attack once he teams up with Flintoss and Hoggard.

There's no doubt that he'll walk out of that Lords' ground, trip over a kerb and do his back. That's been the pattern all his life. Sadly, he'll bury us before than, another no-name journeyman bowler who had his 5 minutes of fame at our expense.

Bumper Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 He does bowl some unplayable deliveries. But i dont rate him ahead of Harmy, Flintoff, Hoggard & Jones. Its sad that our overhyped batting superstars cannot even navigate a 2nd string English attack.

You are selling him short there. He played three tests vs AUS in the last Ashes coming off a serious back injury. I don't think that was a fair representation of his ability, IMO.

The Outsider Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 Bumper, I rate him ahead of Harmison and Hoggard when fully fit. Hoggard is a very good bowler but the reason why he is invaluable to the English attack is because of his phenomenal fitness rather than his ability to wreck batting lineups.

The key lies in consistency and Anderson has not shown it historically. Another flash in the pan who will be sorted out soon by other batting lineups that have the stomach for a fight.
The Outsider Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 If fit, Anderson is much more than a flash in the pan. He is nippy (around the 85 mph mark), has a consistent outswinger and the ability to not only make the ball hold its line but to actually nip back off the wicket.
ali0786 Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 Ive always rated him highly in ODI's, but never in tests till today. When conditions suit him, he's a very handy bowler to have. He can bowl some excelent outswingers...he bowled excelent deliveries to get rid of dravid and ganguly.

Donny Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 Anderson has suffered like Yuvraj is suffering for India. His problem has been to get an extended run in the first XI with the underperforming Harmison being preferred - time after time. Ando has that touch of class and will only improve with playing.

simba28 Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 i agree with mania.. Agarkar and Anderson are quite similar.. skiddy quick and can swing the ball.. I love to watch them bowl even though they are not the most recognized bowlers.. I guess its A curse . hehe
