But despite his failing health and the changing dynamics in Maharashtra politics, Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray proved that he can play all the right cards as he addressed an 80,000 strong crowd at Thane's Central Maidan. For the first time, the 86-year-old took a secular stand and proclaimed that his party has never been against Muslims who love India. "My party members, especially women, had protected many Muslims during the '92-'93 riots. And those pictures were even published in newspapers. My party never discriminates when it comes to region, religion, caste or creed," said Thackeray. To drive home his message, he pointed towards former Minorities minister Shabbir Shaikh and urged the crowd to ask him if the Sena had ever discriminated against him. source

Lurker Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 The budhao is right. Shiv Sena has not been against Muslims. They started with been against Tamils and then majored into been against Muslims, Biharis, Gujaratis and everybody else that was non-Marathi.

ViruRulez Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 To be honest, Maharastra is a great reflection of India as a whole. You have one of the most corrupt parties ruling both the centre and the state of MH. You also have an opposition in both cases which is continuously losing ground and is trying every new stunt to gain some votes. But it is not paying off in either case. In both cases, the main opposition party is trying to make inroads into votebanks that they have been somewhat against in the past. But they are unable to do so. And local public is out of options in both cases on whom to vote for but they are being forced to vote for the ruling party as the opposition is as bad as the ruling party if not worse especially in terms of peace and stability. And in both cases, instead of all the problems the state and the country is still somewhat moving ahead in terms of development instead of all the problems. And in both cases, it holds true that "the rich are becoming richer and the poor becoming poorer". Interesting analogy. And really sad to the current state of politics in India.
