Unfortunate he was made the scapegoat over the bodyline row. Hope the folks who claim Bradman didn't faced trundlers his whole career is the reason he averages 99.94 watches the clips. Batting against the likes of Larwood on uncovered pitches and no protective equipment must have been special, and Bradman still managed to average nearly 60 in the Bodyline series :hatsoff:

The umpire is focussing properly looking for the no-ball first and then for the entire action. Unlike today's umpires who cannot count a six-a-ball over and point to 3rd umpires whenever given an opportunity.
Don't know about players' date=' but the umpiring appears to be more professional and better than the present day umpiring..[/quote'] Earlier umpires always tried to be in a good position to check the run out. I remember once David Shepherd gave a close run out on his own even though he had option to go to 3rd umpire. When fielder was striking at the stumps, umpire was exactly opposite to the stumps, watching the ball carefully.

lol at how suddenly old b/w footage is now become acceptable for the usual suspects  BTW what was the avg of 99.94 man in that series and why did Larwood not play a single Test after taking 33 wkts ? :hmmm:
Bradman still averaged close to 60 against the bowling and field settings which are not legal anymore. As for Larwood you gotta watch "Bodyline" series or read a few books from older players. Apparently England selectors/board asked Larwood to make a formal apology for bowling bodylne and Larwood refused saying he did nothing wrong and he did what his captain asked him to. Larwood was a persona non-grata from that point. Te irony is that Larwood eventually emigrated to Aus and settled there.

For Jardine ? He was a moron of highest order !
Why was Jardine a moron? I have respect for him for doing whatever he could within the laws of the game to help his team win. I think of him more as a pioneer with the plans and strategies he came up with for countering Bradman's run making and he succeeded! Would you say Dhoni was a "moron" for using 8-1 field against Aussies in 2008 even though some people perceived it as negative and defensive?
