Old guy Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 He conceded 46 in 7 overs that because of that 12 run over in batting PP' date=' other he did not go more 6-7 in any over and most of those were 1s and 2s and remember he bowled when the ball was old and it is a disadvantage in Australia to start with older ball because it is the new ball which swings, seams, and gives a bowler opportunity to take wickets. Kookabura does not swing for more than 10 overs and it was not a green top was just a flat track and but for some strange reasons, ball start swinging a lot here under lights than it does in day light.[/quote'] itsn ot lights.. i think its atmosphere in evening that helps swing a bit and bcos of this day night test would be interest i think :hmmm:
express bowling Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Now that we have atleeast 3 150k pacers, we should work on them like other countries do to make them better. We need a good bowling coach and these special talents need special attention. We should not waste them. As of now Umesh is just going through the motions and not bowling to a plan. The new bowling coach needs to teach him that.
Vijay.Sharma Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 I dunno about fastest over but I am sure Srinath was faster than Ummu or Varun or Ishant or Sreesanth have ever been for an extended period of time (say 2-3 seasons)

What was Srinath's fastest? and is it official? Obviously, Srinath was very fast in his initial days but there were no speed guns but don't think, he'd be faster than 153k
Vijay.Sharma Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 I am not sure about that. What was Srinath's fastest? and is it official? Obviously' date=' Srinath was very fast in his initial days but there were no speed guns but don't think, he'd be faster than 153k[/quote']His fastest was at 156 in SA...it came on the giant screen too. It was actually the fastest ball in the whole series in 96-97. Lance Kluesener bowled the fastest by a Saffer (in an ODI) at 154 and was promptly hit for six by Robin Singh in that series. Between 1995/96 and 99/2000 Srinath was as fast as Waqar and Donald. Touching 145 was a foregone conclusion. He was bowling at 150. Even in his last series - the WC of 2003 Srinath bowled faster than Nehra, in the low-mid 140s. Srinath was a seriously fast bowler - not like Akthar and Lee but like Waqar and Donald in those 4 years. Rahul after his 148 at Jo'burg said just one thing - "I am glad I didn't have to face Sri on this track". Rahul faced Donald, MacMillan, Pollock, and Kluesener in that game
J P K Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 people still measuring his speed :wall: not his performance :wall:

jairamesh Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Not bowling Yadav from ball 1 is a travesty...whilst the likes of Lee, Malinga, Steyn always bowl the first over. It is fecking scandal and joke from Dhoni and management's side not opening with Yadav. What's point of having a 90plus guy coming in a 20th over? absolutely none! Sometimes you have think who is the bigger moron between Dhoni and Fletcher.

Considering 2 balls, one at each end, are used in an innings, Umesh was bowling with just a 2 overs old ball against batsmen who weren't quite set, and he was shafted as usual.

Instead 1st over goes to the "10th" rate trundler Vinay Kumar. By the fourth over Mahela and Dilshan were in full flow.

He is all over the place and can easily let the openers get away. Vinay at least keeps a tight leash on teh openers and has managed to pick up early wkts in earlier games. Maybe we can give him the new ball along with Vinay and see if he can be any different.

Even Ishant looked like a world beater against them in tests and picked up boatloads of wkts. What happened to him against Eng and Aus? Yes, Umesh needs to be backed but we need to be realistic at the same time regarding his abilities. At the moment Umesh is more a Mohd Sami than a Steyn.

Umesh, or any other bowler, will look better against WI than Aus. Even Sami looked great initially and destroyed NZ in a match. Umesh is looking the same to me - all the assets of a pacer but all over the place.

Bowling a one-off decently won't help you much. You have to be spot on continuously as it puts pressure on batsmen and gets wkts, not a one-off magic delivery.
