jf1gp_1 Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 Yusuf pathan in test side is as funny as afridi captaining a test side but to be fair, Yusuf did have couple of good ODIs on some tricky pitches last time we were in SA.
Ultimate_Game Posted March 10, 2013 Author Posted March 10, 2013 Yusuf Pathan should open with the bat in odi's. When he scored 100 off 37 we will reach 500. No he shouldn't. Top of the order should have batsmen who can play long innings, i.e. folks like Pujara. Players like Pathan should come in lower down the order at 6 or 7, or in case we got a great start and send a pinch hitter up the order. A once in a blue moon knock is not worth the numerous cheap dismissals at the top of the order.
I6MTW Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 Shahid Afridi used to open the innings in odi with his aggressive batting. Jayasuriya and sehwag were very aggressive and never used to stay long at the crease.

Jayasuriya and sehwag were very aggressive and never used to stay long at the crease. And where did it land Pakistan? A pathetic top order where opening stand is non-existent and a generation who grew up idolizing a brainless slogger at the top of the order? It's coz of such hare-brained tactics Pak have batsmen averaging in 20s or early 30s, and tailunts like Imran Nazirs. If you are trying to compare Afridi with Jayasuriya and Sehwag, you are sorely mistaken. Sehwag and J'suriya are actually batsmen, albeit aggressive, who used to play long and match changing innings on a regular basis and not once every 3-4 years. Afridi can at best be compared to someone like Yusuf Pathan, though I have to add that if Yusuf Pathan had been allowed to bat up the order as many times as Afridi he would have much more match-winning knocks and 100s.
