The Outsider Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 Just for fun, how many ways can you think of for a hat trick to be achieved in cricket with all 3 batsmen dismissed on non zero scores? In ODIs and tests? Don't think it has ever happened in an actual match - maybe it has in some First Class match and junkies like Tapioca would be aware of it? I could think of two ways in ODIs and three in tests.

A bowler taking 9th wicket off 6th ball of his over, then taking 10th wicket off first ball of his next over hence finishing the innings. And then coming back in, say 2nd over of 2nd innings, to dismiss #1, who has scored some runs in 1st over of the 2nd innings. Another one would be out off 6th ball, out off 1st ball of next over (while changing ends, caught in deep etc), and out off 2nd ball.

Aaah....I hadn't considered that. So, there is one more which I have in mind and has not been mentioned above.

That the main bowler picks up two wickets, gets injured and comes back later to pick the third. Tapioca, has any hat trick ever happened in FC cricket where all batsmen were dismissed after facing at least 2 deliveries - I scanned through the list of ODI and test hat tricks and could not find anything?

cameron_black Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 and there are other types of hat-tricks like getting it from two legit deliveries (one off a wide which gets the batsman stumped)
