I opened several good articles about Sachin prior the first test as a lot was riding on Tendulkar and Donny gave me hard time saying all we have here is Sachin related threads. I'll really have to find another word for 'exaggeration'. I merely inquired if you had a merge facility as there were 10 Sach topics on the front page of the index which could've been under about 3 headings. But, I agree about the sacred one. If ya not for him, ya're agin him !! Shhhhh... don't mention his strike rate against Bangladesh. :listen:

veer Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 I dont like to offend Sachin.. but in his interview last week he said something along the lines of... i am not retiring because i still enjoy the game and its not about money.. well enjoy the game but not at the cost of India losing games again and again.. after all country comes first.. and then you and your enjoyment... he also said he hates losing a game.. but then again we have lost so many games in recent past that it is not even worth commenting.. I was hoping that he would retire after winning 07 WC.. par sala kya vaaaaat laga daali.. I am just waiting on SRT, RD, SG to retire.. It is easy to digest a loss with newbies than with our STARS..

What exactly has Sachin won for us?? xxx Lurker that is a pretty harsh statement....Sachin was pretty much the one man team till the mid nineties until Dada and RD came along.Its really an irony that the rest of the team missed capitalizing on Sachin's knocks numerous times.But that was a long time ago. Sachin has really not much to show in the last couple of years and that has been a major source of disappointments for the fans. Kapil's last few years were no great shakes either.Sachin has indeed been failing under pressure more often than not in the last few years.That is a true fact but I wouldnt generalize it over his whole career.That's not right.

Having seen both the eras(of Kapil and Sachin) I suppose I am in a good position to compare the two. Sachin is a great batsman, according to some Indians the greatest Indian ever. Fair enough. What is also true is that for a long time Sachin was one man band as far as India was concerned. However it is also true that if it the case of one-upmanship then Kapil was better than Sachin. Sachin atleast had the advantage of having an Azhar, a Dravid, a VVS at various point of his career, whom did Kapil had? He was as one man band as you would ever find. I also don't buy this thought that Sachin carried the entire country on his shoulder. He certainly carried it better than others but make no mistakes about the support he received. As for the winning factor at the end of the day the FACT is that Indian LOI team between 1983-1986 is widely acknowleged as the greatest Indian team ever. And who made that team great? Sunil Gavaskar? Yashpal Sharma? Mohinder Amarnath? Sandeep Patil? Sure they all had their moments but the single most important person in that line-up was Kapil Dev. Yes the day Sachin can lay some claim to a WC win or a WSC win I would be inclined to recheck my thought but until then... Kapil's last few years were no great shakes either.Sachin has indeed been failing under pressure more often than not in the last few years.That is a true fact but I wouldnt generalize it over his whole career.That's not right. I have always maintained that had Kapil retired around 1987(a decade into his career) he would have perhaps had much better claim to greatest all-rounder of his era(or any era) than any of his compatriots. He had a tremendous record then, had won WC(and led India to semis in another), won an away series(finally!) in England and should have perhaps called it quits. He went atleast a couple of years extra. Which is also why I say that watching Sachin these days gives me a sense of deja vu. xxx
