see what happened to each and every Gujarat BJP leader (especially the senior most ones) who questioned Modi - they have been humiliated' date=' their Lok Sabha/Vidhan Sabha tickets taken away and in many cases, forced to leave the party. I'm not saying he will do these things but now since Advani has openly questioned him, I do not expect Modi to support Advani ever again.[/quote'] Read about what a young Advani did to Baljraj Madhok the person who got him into the party, the co-founder of Jan Sangh.

keshubhai was a different matter..advani is a too bigger leader to undergo that fate .. with some tall leaders still in the advani "khema",he can still rule the roost to where he want to contest.. saw rajnath`s interview to charkha dutt yesterday, till he`s the president, advani aint going nowhere
Modi can try all he like but there is no way he can marginalize Advani because Advani now has some things Modi doesn't, that is acceptability with allies and support of some key senior leaders who are keeping quite right now and thus he is still very much in contention for the PM's post. What Modi can do now is try to sabotage Advani's campaign in Gujarat because he has now got some real fanatics in the name of supporters with him who just cannot see beyond their "dear leader" and would have no qualms in working against Advani. But I doubt he will do it because seeing Advani's stature, there will be more damage to Modi than to Advani form such a move.

if his supporters are "fanatics", then even more colorful descriptions can be given for his detractors :--D

without a doubt,i am sure modi would not try to hijack advani`s campaign,he`ll do more damage to himself and he should not take panga against a leader of advani`s stature..he`s wise enough to realize that, surely we`ll see some backdoor reconciliation.. meanwhile its raining like hell in delhi

Advani moving to Gandhinagar has a Modi connection. Advani got Modi into BJP in 1985, made him the BJP secretary in charge of state and gave him the responsibility of building the organization in the state. Then Modi managed the entire Gujrat leg of Advani's Rath yatra in 1990. Then Modi increased his clout with Advani and marginalized Shankar Singh Vaghela by first persuading him to contest from Gandhinagar in 1991 (Was Vaghela's lok sabha seat earlier) and then totally managing his Gandhinagar lok sabha seat. Thats where Modi's prominence in BJP started.
and look what Modi did immediately after he got some power - bit by bit he sidelined every single senior leader until he was made the CM - then whenever any of them questioned him, that leader was just politically demolished.

He didnt need to be sidelined in the first place. :giggle: Vaghela was pissed back in 98' when Keshubapa was picked over him. Back then in Gujarat, BJP was just like how it is today in Karnataka with regional leaders fighting for the top posts.

From Vaghela to Keshubhai to Suresh Mehta to Kanshiram Rana. In late 90s, he was banished to Himachal on their insistence. Atalji was a moderate leader, for one remark by Govindacharya against him, he made sure Govindacharya lost his political relevance . Ditto with Kalyan Singh. Gave you the example of Balraj Madhok earlier. PV Narasimha Rao was a gentleman, polyglot and a moderate leader. Tried to fix all his political opponents through the Jain Hawala case. Nitish Kumar sidelined George Fernandes and a few other senior leaders who were founders of the JDU. Thats how politics works. No one is a saint here.

In closing this discussion all I will say that IMO Modi can be much worse than all of these easily.

Only because he's been the most viciously attacked politician of the current era with every minor move and statement of him being analyzed minutely especially by the anti-Modi cottage industry which declared him a loser in 2002, 2007 and even in 2012. For e.g. recently in Bihar 6 Tharu tribals died in indiscriminate police firing. No coverage at all in national media. Nitish' run in with his one time confidante Upendra Kushwaha, Arun Kumar, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Jai Narayan Nishad, Manni lal Mandal- all senior JDU MPs and long time Nitish associate, again ZERO coverage in the national media. Anyways as you said lets close this discussion.

And it's due to this motto that Modi will find little support from state leaders. They'll not risk losing power at the state for a cabinet seat.

"think of thyself" - has Modi been doing anything other than that since the day he has become CM  and people here think coalition members will want to enter into a coalition with him...
