Sachinism Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Akshay, don't bother with these guys of real integrity, who have always done what is best for everyone around them. They have never had a moment of weakness. They spend the day finding irrelevant nonsense (not this thread, but in general) to bring down someone who they know they're so inferior to and then when you show irrational they're being, they'll accuse you of irrational in your defence and claim victory
Dravid_TheWall Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 let's look at the facts here: SRT took a year to get to his 100th 100 because he felt it was like a monkey on his back (for a totally meaningless record) and used to freeze in 80s and 90s during this period as if a snake smelled him. Even his form suffered .... I don't know if there is a big choker than him :giggle: Couldn't agree more, he is mentally fragile, of that there is no doubt. But we should be grateful he scored the ton so he can start giving his best to Indian cricket. Yes it was a slow ton which was intentional, but rather that than him suffering from more anxiety and affecting team performance. Good riddance to his dreaded 100th ton. He has slightly gone down in respect for me during this period even before the slow ton. Guy allowed the english media who started the whole 100th ton thing to bully him into submission. Lara was never like that.
vvvslaxman Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 lol ... WTF a certain Batsman who is compared with various immovable objects - such as a Deewar for example - constructed an entire ODI career over 15 friggin yrs by batting for entire inngs with super slow strike rates ... Never saw the supposedly "Astute Critics" over here open threads along the lines of how these innings were disgraceful moments. Understand ? You are barking at the wrong tree. If anyone else had done the same he would have earned the same criticism. I suppose you are referring to Dravid. He has had his share of criticism. Infact i was very vocal when he made that 12 runs in 96 balls in the oval test instead of going for win.

Ultimate_Game Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Can't believe we are still hung up on the same topic. I think it's fair criticism by calling out Tendulkar for slowing down to get to his 100 in the game against Bangbros when we had plenty of wkts in hand and knowing fully well our bowling is so cr@p it needs all the runs it can get. It does not mean the posters "hate" Tendulkar or are jealous/envious of him. When Tendulkar plays an innings like he did against Pakis in 2003 wrold cup the same posters go gaga over the innings and praise him as well. Tendulkar criticism is no different from when posters were criticizing Dhoni in the game against Aus where he slowed down quite a lot and eventually had to score 14 or so in the last over against McKay to win the game. The criticism was that Dhoni slowed down way too much and jeopardized our win which could have been completed comfortably. It didn't mean posters were Dhoni "haters". It's in the similar vein Tendular was criticized - nothing more and nothing less. As a professional sportsperson you are going to be criticized, fairly or unfairly, and sometimes based on people's perception. See what happened to Ryder in the 3rd T20 game against SA. He was clearly their best batsman and scored a 42 ball half century and put NZ on way to an easy win. But NZ lost their way and couldn't even score at less than run a ball in the final 4-5 overs and the blame fell on Ryder's feet as he slowed down appreciably by scoring his last 3 runs in 7 balls, and some commies like Adam Parore were even calling for him to be dropped for selfishness. This is part and parcel of life as a professional sportsperson and you can't do much about it. I don't think anyone can avoid the criticism and IMO if players are feted for doing well, they should be prepared for getting some flak as well when their performances aren't good.

Unfortunately Dhoni doesn't have such dedicated supporters lol Otherwise all dhoni threads would be still alive
Ultimate_Game Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Why don't you show me a thread where that inngs from MSD was hailed as a moment of disgrace and people going on to claim having more integrity and dedication than MSD ? Coz Dhoni didn't slow down for his personal landmark  Dhoni played slowly right from the beginning and left the charge a bit too late and that's what people were criticizing him for. Tendulkar on the other hand slowed down for his 100 as he played pretty well before the near-100 phase and pretty well afterwards. If you can't even see this much clearly you are more of a Tendulkar fan than an India one and simply have one motto "everything Tendulkar does is right". Fortunately or unfortunately there are others who don't think on similar lines.
Ultimate_Game Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 so you can slow down and lose imp matches as long as you don't achieve a milestone along the way .... or construct an entire career consisting of much slower batting costing us countless close matches as His Jaminess has shown us but god forbid you slow down against the mighty bengalis who are never known to chase 250+ totals ? ok got it that makes perfect sense. :two_thumbs_up: If you can't even differentiate between an error in leaving the charge too late (Dhoni), a limited player in the shorter format who even went as far as to keep wkts for the team (Dravid) and someone slowing down deliberately to get to a personal milestone (SRT against B'desh) I, or anyone, can't do much. For once if you take off your Tendulkar fanboy tainted glasses and look from the perspective of Team India fan you might actually see the difference. The point is not whether B'desh could or couldn't have chased 250, the main point was that we were in a position to get more and should have got more but for a player to slow down trying to reach a personal milestone. Last post from me and if you want to deride Dravid, Ganguly, Gavaskar etc. by all means go ahead and do so, but it doesn't change the fact that SRT was indeed selfish and cost India a win.
vvvslaxman Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 why don't you show me one single thread that has called Dravid's batting as a disgraceful moment in Indian cricket ? That is not my problem. If you want you can create one.
vvvslaxman Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Simple question : Have batsmen other than Tendulkar batted much much slowly than his 78% S/R and cost us the match ? Answer in Yes/No I know for a fact Ganguly's 18 runs in 31 balls cost us the game against pakistan.. If you just look at score card you won't understand.. But it effectively cost us the game. We literally wanted to break the TV seeing Ganguly's batting. http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/64941.html .....................For the Indians, though, this will be a tough loss to recover from. Sourav Ganguly made one early change from the script used in that game against West Indies in 2002 - he had chosen to field after winning the toss in that game - but no-one can blame Ganguly for his decision today: the team batting first has been winning in this series, and despite the excess moisture on the pitch which caused an hour's delay, the track looked a belter when play finally began. What Ganguly will find much tougher to justify is his promotion to No. 4 in the batting line-up after the outstanding start that the top three had given the team. Ganguly might have opted for the move to prove a point about his batting, but all he managed was eat up 33 balls in scoring 18 runs in a match in which all batsmen scored at around a run a ball or more. With the innings already 32 overs old when Mahendra Singh Dhoni got out, logic would have suggested that Rahul Dravid, Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif be the chosen ones to play the next 16 overs, with Ganguly coming in only if absolutely required to. Ganguly's stay at the crease not only checked the momentum, it also meant Sachin Tendulkar was struggling for strike - he faced only 21 balls when Ganguly was at the crease. It's important that Ganguly run into form in the long term, but what was more critical at that point was to do what would have given the team the best opportunity to win the match. Ganguly coming in at No. 4 certainly wasn't the answer........read more.......
vvvslaxman Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 But I thought that you guys were the thekedars of Balanced posting' date=' Astute Criticism without bias and ofcourse truckloads of "integrity" ... Bakwas much ?[/quote'] "You guys".. what do you mean by that :cantstop:
vvvslaxman Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 You could easily say.. "can't you even defend 315 runs" then it is bowler's fault.. Also lack of strike rotation affect the batsman at the other end as well.
Ultimate_Game Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Simple question : Have batsmen other than Tendulkar batted much much slowly than his 78% S/R and cost us the match ? Answer in Yes/No The keyword here is "deliberately". It's not about batting slowly but batting slowly deliberately to reach a milestone. Other than the SRT "go slow" I recall only 2 other incidents of Indian players playing selfishly to team's detriment... 1. Mongia & Prabhakar against WI in mid 90s when they gave up the chase as they thought they couldn't reach the target. IMO that was the most disgraceful moment in Indian history as the batsmen simply gave up. 2. Ganguly against Pakistan in 2005 http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/64941.html This was during the Chappell era where Ganguly was trying to hang on to his spot in the team. India was going well when Ganguly entered and simply crawled along trying to get back in form and cost India momentum and the match with an in-form Yuvraj waiting in the final. Again, I consider this innings worse than the SRT innings. Other than these 2 SRT innings is the only one I have watched where an Indian batsman deliberately slowed down and I would put his innings at no. 3 spot after the examples I listed above. Also, it's not about the SR of 78 and about stats alone. You had to watch the game to see that SRT deliberately slowed down to get to his 100. If you go just by the stats then even Ryder (mentioned in my earlier example) shouldn't have been criticized at all for his innings against SA as he scored 40 ball 50 and ensured NZ were the favorites, but anyone who watched the game saw what Ryder did - he totally killed the momentum while scoring his final 3 runs off 8 balls and getting SA back in the game just so that he could get to his 50. Same with SRT. We had the chance to put up a huge score and bat B'desh out of the game but we couldn't do that and Tendulkar was the main reason as he took too long to get to his 100.
vvvslaxman Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 I thought i was the only one who still vividly remembers that shambolic match by Ganguly :cantstop: .
