Thank You Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar for..

He was a nervous wreck out there. Twice would have been run out. Couple more instances he was searching for singles that were non-existent. He took his own time not because pitch was slow or bowling was great. Raina slammed a quick 50 on the very same pitch. With 9 wickets in hand.. your acceleration should have started much early. No matter how slow the pitch is as you say it is unfathomable a guy like Tendulkar plays out a maiden over against 120k bowler like Mortaza. At one stage he had scored 1 run in 10 balls he had faced.
Being nervous = out of form, or selfish? About the maiden over - did you watch the match or just going by the cricinfo commentary? Were all the 6 balls dead-bat defense - no credit to fielders / bowlers /chance? Back to the main point - Kohli's slowing down from 90-100, to achieve personal landmark of 11th 100 - was an act of selfishness or not? Or was he able to foresee the future that he will surely be able to compensate for the slowing down.

Sachin should play the role of someone who provides a quick start and not worry about anchoring the innings. we have enough of steady hands in Gambhir, kohli and Dhoni. Rohit, Sachin and Raina should play the role of pushing up the run rate and take on the bowling.
Actually it is not as simple as that. A lot depends on the conditions, match situation ,mental state/mood of him/others. You can't expect him to be aggressor all the times, you can't expect others to be anchors all the time... these guys are pros, and come with a plan (discussed in the dressing room). Lets just leave it to them.

Kohli is our future. No point in going down that route. Such routes are reserved for Mr Integrity and his beacons of honesty.

Someone needs to go down the eye-for-an-eye route, for the "lets call a spade a spade" brigade. On second thoughts, who am I kidding? This wouldn't have been required in the first place, if they have not been overflowing with integrity, honesty and objectivity. Looks like too much of anything is injurious to mental health.

The maidan he played, he played couple of crackling shots which went straight to the fielder so it was not like he was not trying to hit

The maidan he played' date=' he played couple of crackling shots which went straight to the fielder so it was not like he was not trying to hit[/quote'] The final result - he did slow down for his 100. I don't see any other "cricketing" reason. For that, Sachin cops up part of the (not all) blame mind you. I'm not convinced 275-280 was a good , total on this track. Bangladesh racked up 283/9 in 50 Overs against India on this very same ground, around the same time last year. I think that should've been a good indicator of the score needed. Our bowling attack may not have helped defend a 300 sort of score but in any case, you should give yourself the best chance.

So, both Kohli and SRT in the middle were chewtiye of first order that they were playing with that target in mind? Blame it on their lack of foresight or miscalculation - but this irrational blaming on intentions and integrity must stop. Or shall they have pre-match poll on ICF - Oh my Indian cricketing lords, how much shall we score today? It is more pathetic than Pakistanis blaming their players for match-fixing on every loss - at least they are proven match fixers.

Akshay, I think I've given a reason why I think 275-290 was an insufficient total. Bangladesh posted 283 against us in the WC albeit against a strong bowling attack. I think I reserve the right to opine that a cricketer mis-calculated the final total. I'm sure it's not the first time and sure it won't be the last time too. If you feel otherwise, we can "agree to disagree". Lets keep the reasons - cricket related.

^ Yes, every time when we go out to bat against Aussies and Africans we must score atleast 450.. After all they scored against better bowling attack http://www.espncricinfo.com/rsavaus/engine/current/match/238200.html
Doesn't mean we should score 200 either! You've got to give yourself the best chance. I think considering the position we were after 35 overs, we could've scored more. Why can't we have a balanced opinion here, I have no idea? Just borders on the extremes. :dontknow:

I am questioning, the unfair and disproportionate blame on an individual, especially the integrity/intention part - when it is evident that that is the kind of target Kohli and SRT and team were targeting in their mind - and achieved it. Unless of course, you are suggesting that Sachin lied in the post-match talks (how Kohli and him discussed the pitch conditions during the course of the game and were going accordingly).

With the benefit of hindsight - if one starts accounting all the dot balls (many of them are due to efforts of fielding/bowling) - especially in lost matches due to better chasing... then except for the 350+ scores, every ODI score is 20-30 runs short of the 'theoretically' achievable target.

Thanks, I definitely have the benefit of hindsight and hence, it's just an opinion. However, to alleviate that I am citing a game played between the same opponents at the same ground. Therefore, I think I'm not being biased. Finally, I said that we were 20-30 runs at the first half itself. Also, I am not allocating all the blame of the loss to Tendulkar (check my earlier post). Surely, even in hindsight I think I reserve some right to analyze the situation and call the spades as I see it.

Sachin played excellently today. Good strike rate and good partnership with Kohli. Well done. BUT you seriously don't think that Sachin played extremely slowly against a very mediocre Bangladeshi attack just so that he could get his century ? Surely Sachin is a much better player than a 72 strike rate century, 78 strike rate for the whole innings, against a Bangladeshi attack on a flat pitch. Why are so many people either blind fanboys or blind haters of Tendulkar ? The truth is somewhere inbetween.
I think 148 ball 183 against Pakistan and 147 ball 114 against BD are similar.:--D

While for same 10 runs Sachin had taken 13..!! I had not watched Sachin's innings y'day and I had thought that people would have had some reason to go on rampage of such magnitude. Now if you look at the fact that Kohli was in full knowledge of India's stiff target still he got slow to complete his century, while Sachin's effort came in first innings when he was uncertain about what is good target. Can anybody explain why Kohli who was scoring at the strike rate of 110 before his 90 (90 runs, 81 balls) and scored at strike rate of 166 after 100, scored at the pathetic strike rate of 62.5 between his 90 and 100. Why this wasn't a selfish act? Why did he find scoring so difficult for that brief period of time, while he was butchering bowlers either side of that period? Though Kohli could pull it through for team eventually, but should that blind us from the fact that he was putting his team at great risk just for his personal milestones? Some legends who think their posts should be taken seriously, must answer this if they want to restore any credibility to their comments/posts.
Run rate was already maintained and he was just waiting for PP to come and keep his wicket intact. He was already scoring at over 100 SR and not 72.

^but Yoda, Rohit slowed down for his 50, Kohli slowed down for his 100. Only thing is we won the game, what if Kohli had got out at exactly 100? There is never a one reason to lose the game. We should have won that game against Bangladesh with bonus point, our bowling sucked.
Our bowling sucked for last 20 years. It was not the first time. We were about lose to even at 414 a few years ago. Look 147 ball 114 inning is not on in these conditions. If a batsmen is, he must make sure that he scored a fine clip. I blamed even Kohli and Gambhir in the first match. They both played for their 100s against SL, but still Kohli had an SR of 100. IN both matches, it was Raina and Dhoni whose late assaulted powered the team to some total. We scored 303 against SL and we must have scored more than that against BD. Thing is BD may be a weak team, but their batsmen are talented. They can play shots and they had nothing to lose and it did for them like it did for us at Hobart chasing 321 in less 40 overs. There would not have been any complain had we given our best in that game, but it was not the case. Even Kohli was slow. We batted below par that was the main issue and how could we forgot same BD scored 283 against us in WC without being all out.

Are you sure :hmmm: Check out the run rate from over 24th to 29th. (coinciding his stroll from 89 to 100) Come back to me, if it was more than 4.5 ( when RRR was ~6.7). scoring 2 points below asking RR - when you are well set and in form...just to achieve personal 100 - must be unforgivable. Besides Powerplay was still ~10 overs away.

Had Sachin not got out immediately after his 100' date='he would have upped the runrate much like Kohli. Unfortunately he got out and we had to undergo these extended sessions on integrity:hysterical:[/quote'] Tendulkar had already played 147. There was not many overs left when he got out.

I'm not sure if this was the case. His stroll coincided with the batting PP.
Drinks: India - 169/1 in 35.0 overs (SR Tendulkar 87, V Kohli 63) Powerplay 3: Overs 35.1 - 40.0 (Batting side - 34 runs, 1 wicket) 3rd Wicket: 50 runs in 44 balls (SR Tendulkar 12, SK Raina 31, Ex 8)
