akshayxyz Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 that is why I am in two minds over the death penalty for rape ... but if not death penalty then something harsh such as 20 year prison term should be there for rape .. but it should be verified rape and I am not sure how that can be concluded .. in the modern era' date=' there would be more cases of false rape accusations especially with girls becoming more bold and some set of girls doing anything for fame and money .. so, need to make the laws foolproof too .. it is a difficult choice and hopefully some right way would be devised to make the punishment more harsh but to make the accusations authentic too .. it is a tricky call to be honest but something needs to be done in the long run[/quote'] Its always difficult to come up with suitable punishment for hardened or simply mentally sick criminals - no amount of punishment(or threat of it) will affect them. And even more difficult to identify them. Eventual hope is (very long term), may be in future such psychological defects get detected at early stage or before that by real-time surveillance/tracking of individuals crime is intercepted just before happening or at least have solid evidence of crime happening. (there are research projects that are slowly progressing in that direction - activity/event recognition from videos.)
anotherhawkeye Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 And finally I have always said and still think that p0rn, prostitution etc. must be legalized in the nation to reduce all this. On one hand, there is an overdose of sex on TV and movies but there is no legal provisions for the outlet of sexual energy which often is the reason for such crimes especially by very young guys .. legalization of prostitution etc. with proper check of STD etc. as in western country would help a long way in reducing the no of rape cases. I totally agree with you. The state should just make sure that underage girls are not involved in prostitution and that no one is forced to do it. Other than that, who the feck cares if some one gets money to feck? It's wrong in so many levels.
akshayxyz Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 AAAA is KatvaBilla! :woot: :hysterical::hysterical:
Vijay.Sharma Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 I know this sounds barbaric but really the best punishment is to castrate them and make it illegal for them to surgically get a new dick
punjabi_khota Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Life without parole is punishment enough for most cases. No need to go all barbaric on them.
Vijay.Sharma Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Life without parole is punishment enough for most cases. No need to go all barbaric on them.I dunno I just feel there should be a bit of "eye for an eye" in the punishment that is meted out for such kinda crimes
CSK Fan Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 I dunno I just feel there should be a bit of "eye for an eye" in the punishment that is meted out for such kinda crimes Well the question is, should punsihment be for deterrance and justice or should it be the means to take revenge. Which is better for society
anotherhawkeye Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 I dunno I just feel there should be a bit of "eye for an eye" in the punishment that is meted out for such kinda crimes Eye for an eye means they should be raped themselves, by other men of course. Even then, how can you recreate the emotional hardship they caused to the girl and her family? Torture them? Take away their legs, hands, tongue and eyes and let them live a horrible life the rest of their lives? Nothing is enough or practical and that is the unfortunate. Best we can do is life time confinement with no parole.
Vijay.Sharma Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 To be honest (and in the spirit of confession) I don't think I would mete out castration as a punishment if I was thinking coolly. It is the anger in me and the momentary lapse of reason that causes such an outburst when you hear of such crimes. Crimes against women and children (especially of sexual nature) need to have a different punishment mechanism. Jailing the guilty is not enough. Jail is supposed to be a means to snatch away the freedom of a person. But a long term in the jail invariably makes the individual adapt himself to his "new life". So the sense of punishment and justice is not served well. I rather prefer punishments that are short but make the point very well. For ex - consider a crime like Kasab's. The best punishment for him would be to just kill him (no need to wait for appeals and high court to supreme court to death row to presidential pardon and waste an entire life time on that while the taxpayer pays for keeping him alive in the jail all the while). Coming back to the subject of this thread - ok, castration is extreme. But how does a jail term even a jail term without possibility of parole serve any greater justice for the victim? There is also the possibility that the rapist might actually realize the seriousness of the crime he committed and want to repent and be a better man. How does jail help him? Sure castration doesn't help in such a case too. I dunno I guess the real truth of the matter is that my stance will change based on t,s,p,c and I will admit that I don't have a prescription. And to understand the influence of t,s,p,c on such matters just consider the marital rapes that occur. How do the husband and wife get on with life when non-consensual sex happened the previous night? They do get along and get on with life in many cases by apologizing and forgiving. But it still is rape, innit?
ganeshran Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 Jailtime and chemical castration are good enough deterrents. Like Khota said, there is no need to go all medevial on them
Vijay.Sharma Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 ^ what is chemical castration? Never heard of it. Is it something like forcibly make the individual's genitals, for the lack of a better word, un-erectable with the help of drugs?

Vijay.Sharma Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 What is T' date='s p,c?[/quote']time, space, perspective, context
straighttalk Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 they deserve it' date=' crime against women children and old ppl deserve strict punishments. make an example out of these two.[/quote'] you are wrong...any sort of crime deserves the highest level of punishment. in this particular case, rape is more common against the woman. considering the fact that her life is ruined..the punishment should be severe. death penalty if made mandatory for rape would act as a deterrent because once they see criminals hanged, it would drastically reduce the crime. but it must be understood that many instances, there are false accusations of rape. so the capital punishment should be reserved only when there is no doubt abt the act. the other option is to castrate the man ...almost paying him back on the same coin. just as her body is very pure to a woman...taking his manhood away would almost have the same psychological effect on him.

phaedrus Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 chop their d***s off and make sure they feel the pain. or send them to jail and make sure they get a***raped by as many convicts as possible.
