I can listen to Ravi Shastri and Rameez Raja combo for the rest of my life. These guys are my inspiration....how to get maximum out of limited skills in any profession that they have undertaken so far.

i know but for a change i want to listen to guys with some brain commentating ..tired of these braindead boring commentators im sure he will be able to tell much more abt technique of players.. and his experinces in very unbaised way he was alwyas my fav :P i just dont want to miss him too much from cricket i guess :--D i started watching cricket near 2001 (as a serious fan) so ever since i started watching cricket these guys have been there now it will feel weird seeing likes of rahane or kohli coming at no 3 :P

:hysterical::hysterical: BTW, he will be missed in Cricket for sure but, the thing is in commentary, those guys are more successful who r outspoken and not afraid to express their views. Dravid is a master of the game. Commentary will be a completely new field for him. Not saying, that he can't commentate. Just that, it will take some time for him to settle down in commentary box.

We dont want no host..We want commentators. In my opinion,anybody who hasnt played the game should not be a commentator.

Sometimes, it is good to bring a varying perspective. Just an example, I once heard Gavaskar and Ian Chappell talk about the India cap, with Gavaskar gushing over the pride of place his India cap gets in his house. And how that is the very thing you play for. Contrastingly, Ian Chappell talked about how once he retired, he tossed his baggy green aside and he has absolutely no idea where it is now. We really do not want a bunch of ex-cricketers with a very very similar viewpoint about most things. A lot of the times, it is better to bring in some much needed perspective. I, for one, was glad I could listen to Chappell that day, and how this is pure nonsense they are trying to sell. It is all great about pride and wanting to play for your team, but sometimes cricketers take it to too extreme a level just to make themselves sound good, rather than stating it like it is. There are people who have never played the game, but know it decently enough to bring in some perspective to things a cricketer will never understand. And then there are commentators like Akram - I don't mind his over-use of the term "particular" or his atrocious use of the English language, but cmon man, at least try and talk some sense. I cannot imagine the last time he read a pitch better than you or I would, the last time he read a match situation better than the public watching it on tv, bring ANYthing new to the table. While the likes of Shastri, Greig and Lawry get paid to bring in that bit of excitement to things, Wasim Akram brings absolutely NOTHING. I would much rather listen to Bhogle instead.

The man hardly ever voices opinions' date=' he is more of a host. how can a host be hated so much?[/quote'] he used to be extremely good as a commentator but lately he has started speaking way too much and its getting a bit irritating BUT I would still like him over many of the other ex-cricketers who sit in the commentary box. Why? If someone has a good knowledge of the game and can express his opinions impartially and in a lucid manner then I don't have much of a problem with that person doing commentary in a sport. Alan Wilkins never played Tennis but he does commentary in Grand Slams and he's very good. Tony Cozier never played cricket but he's a good commentator. Harsha Bhgole is a better commentator than many former Indian cricketers.

Domestic:- Bhogle, Shastri, Ganguly, Dravid/Kumble, SRK(someone entertaining and not necessarily always pedantic in cricketing terms or analysis) International:- Wilkins, Danny, Nasser Hussein, Atherton, Bumble, Bishop, Cozier, Wessels, Haysmen, Ian Chapell Analysts Bhogle, (Manjrekar, Akram, Rameez should all be relegated to emerging nations commentary and analysis) Some eye candy with brains a la Mandira Bedi (or anyone else), Kumble/ Dravid PS I think Dravid suffers from Gynophobia (fear of women) so it's best to keep him far away from them, or else he may not know what to do. Infact I doubt he'd even utter a word if he was in the same room with Mandira. On the same sofa, our man might just faint.

Yes he does on tv as well,He is irritating to hear and when tries to be funny with commentators like ian bishop and chappel soemtimes they just remain silence which creates awkward situations.Its good that espn has got rid of him.
