saneindian Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Now that they have the deal to show Indian cricket, who could be the desi guys ESPN could target? They will need a team of about 8-10 desi ones to cover the domestic and int'l games. Some of the names I can think of are Akash Chopra, Maninder Singh, Saba Karim, Murali Kartik, Ajit Agarkar, Sanjay Bangar, Nayan Mongia. Have heard each of these guys time to time on Neo and other channels. They have a good command over the language, are interested in talking about cricket and discussing the finer aspects of the game. Kumble, Dravid and Dada could also be added to the list more as studio analysts coming in for important matches or being part of the cricket based talk shows. Who else could ESPN look at?
audioman Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Dravid would probably not be as entertaining as Ganguly, but I think their combination could click real big in commentary too. An absolute straight-shooter with an old-world historian would be a nice combination.
b555 Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 donno if dravid would be doing any commentary anyways, bhogle is one guy i like , would love to hear more from him i know many dont like this guy but i strongly suggest you people to see these http://vimeo.com/1746368 http://vimeo.com/2104109
Cricket Tragic Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 I don't think Star can afford Maninder. Have you checked out the price of Coke these days?

Ultimate_Game Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 My "dream team" would be... Rameez "Rambo" Raja Laxman "Squealer" SivaRamaKrishnan Athar "My Word" Ali Khan Arun "Captain Obvious" Lal Saurav "The Jinxer" Ganguly Harsha "Look at me! Look how smart am I!!!" Bhogle Waqar "One Eyed" Younus Tony "It's all IPL/BCCI's Fault" Greig Maybe add a few cheerleaders from channel 9 and England and you have an unbeatable dream team that can get even Americans hooked on to cricket.
Sachin=GOD Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Alan Wilkins Simon Doull Tony Cozier Harsha Bhogle (yeah, he's irritating but still better than many others) Bumble Agarkar Akash Chopra Ian Chappell In the studio I'd love to see Ganguly - he is very boring in the commentary box but his pre/post match analysis is very good. Kumble can also do a good job but I think he'd have his hands full with so many responsibilities he already has. Also, if they have to do some stuff other than cricket (like competitions or going in the crowd etc) then Gautam Bhimani is pretty good.
1983-2011 Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Harsha Bhogle Ian Bishop Geoffrey Boycott Tony Cozier Jeff Dujon Nick Knight Pommie Mbangwa Ravi Shastri Rahul Dravid Saurav Ganguly Fazeer Mohammed
Sachin=GOD Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Gangs, Siddhu and Boycott. :D fin. just add Greg Chappell and you'll have more entertainment in the commentary box than on the cricket field :giggle:
Raghav_12 Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 just add Greg Chappell and you'll have more entertainment in the commentary box than on the cricket field :giggle: :cantstop:

Adi_91 Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 Bcci will produce the matches' date='so expect the same commentary team as neo sports.[/quote'] I think ESS will be producing. At least they have better scorecards than any other cricket channel atm. No Jason de la Pena please.
Sachin=GOD Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 I don't think Dravid will be a good commentator. IMO he will be a good coach.
chainsmoker1985 Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 Dravid is not going to commentary field, at-least this early, for next 2 yrs.
zaqw222222 Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 I think ESS will be producing. At least they have better scorecards than any other cricket channel atm. No Jason de la Pena please. No BCCI will be continue to produce matches. Uday Shankar, CEO of Star Group said in an interview Yes, the board will continue to produce matches. That does not mean it will hinder our approach. Somebody has to produce the cricket. It is a question of working along with them and I do not see any issues arising out of this. As for the question of allowing the BCCI to have an authority to appoint commentators, I cannot answer that at the moment. We have just made the deal. In any case, we will be taking such decisions in collaboration with ESPN STAR Sports, who are a lot more experienced in this regard.
Old guy Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 Dravid is not going to commentary field' date=' at-least this early, for next 2 yrs.[/quote'] agree.. buti personally would love to see him commentate
