Axed as India vice-captain, Gambhir must prove a point: Akram

Former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram today said that the KKR captain Gautam Gambhir should win IPL 5 to prove a point to the Indian selectors who have removed him from the vice-captaincy of the Indian cricket team. Ridiculing the selectors' decision to drop Gambhir from the Indian vice-captaincy, the Kolkata Knight Riders bowling coach said: "First time, I saw the vice-captain was dropped after losing. Usually the captain is dropped after losing. I don't understand what made the selectors to drop him. I don't know about him and what he feels but if I were Gambhir then definitely I would have thought 'you removed me from the vice-captaincy and my goal would have been to win this IPL and prove a point'."
http://www.expressindia.com/latest-news/Axed-as-India-vicecaptain-Gambhir-must-prove-a-point-Akram/932023/ I wonder why what is happening with the national side should be mixed with iPL results. GG winning the IPL will prove didly squat. for Akram and anyone else to say such things and pit our guys against one another so openly in the media is pathetic. Wonder what else we are going to hear as the IPL rolls on.

Gambhir himself was openly attacking Dhoni through the media during the Australian tour - and Dhoni then responded, Sehwag also had some stuff to say. I'm no fan of Akram but in the case of the Indian team, outside influence isn't really needed for these guys to fight amongst each other.

This has to be most stupid thing I have heard Akram say.
Rather its one of his sensible pieces,if you followed him.Gambhir did nothing to be demoted and changing vice captaincy will not change anything.captain needs to be sacked.

His statement that, usually you see a captain being removed after such crappy performances, not the vice-captain, makes lot of sense. I think Dhoni would be first international captain to survive two back-to-back white-washes. But on other statement, I don't think anything that happens in IPL carries or should any impact on (main-stream) cricket.

Don't think there were cricketing reasons behind his demotion. There was something going on between Gauti and Dhoni. Virat hit purple patch at the right time. In the name of rewarding Kohli, they took away vice captaincy from Gauti.

and Fletcher the first coach to survive to 4-0 defeats (that too by a team that won the World Cup a few months back) Anything happening in Tamasha should not have an effect but sadly it does.
surprised why akram is giving statements for India Ponka !
I'd be surprised if I hear Akram talking about Pakistan cricket :giggle: he only ever stalks about Indian cricket and has an opinion about anything and everything going on in Indian cricket.

Did he commentate during the Pakistan series against England? Can't imagine major networks broadcasting Paki matches didn't approach him for commentary work. So why then do we have to listen to him when India plays against Australia?
