Sachin=GOD Posted June 14, 2012 Author Posted June 14, 2012 I am almost certain that none of people named by SP/TMC as their candidates will end up as the UPA's nominee ans the reason is that SP/TMC have named these people in such an abrupt manner and at such a short notice (and that too when the biggest member of the UPA i.e. Congress already has its own candidates) that if the Cong now accepts any of these names then it will look like major decisions are dictated by other members of UPA or even by parties not part of UPA and it will look like Cong does not have much influence. IMO What will happen is that the Congress will name its nominee, get him/her elected simply to show SP/TMC who's boss. If SP/TMC had brought up the name of Dr. Kalam earlier and had tried a more subtle manner then they could have very well succeeded but they will never get the Cong to accept their nominee in this manner.

saneindian Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 I don't know why the Congress never named Pranab Mukherjee as its choice earlier and went to the other parties with his name. COuld so easily have built a consensus on his name and avoided all this drama which has been unfolding for the last 5-6 days. Maybe Sonia Gandhi wanted to pull a last minute surprise by naming some loyalist as her Prez choice. So in a way, Pranab Mukherjee should be thankful to Mamata for this drama which ensured he is now almost certain of getting the topmost rubberstamp job in the nation.

Maybe MMS will keep it for an extended period of time if he wants to push through reforms. More interesting is to see what would UPA do without its troubleshooter-in-chief

More interesting is to see what would UPA do without its troubleshooter-in-chief Some of the names doing the rounds are Montek Singh Ahluwalia, C Rangrajan, Jairam Ramesh or even Salman Khurshid - though all this seems to be just media speculation. Another option could be (its unlikely though) moving Chidambaram back to Finance and naming a new Home Minister. Indeed. Especially now that Mamta would be p!ssed off after her candidates for Prez were rejected without as much as a second thought. But I think she would be the only one among the allies who would create trouble - NCP generally hasn't been a source of problems while DMK is down in the dumps and struggling to (again) find its feet in its home state so I don't expect them to create much trouble. I think AK Antony and Ahmad Patel will get more responsibilities.....................or maybe Kaangress will finally decide to give more responsibilities to the 'Clown Prince' Rahul Baba.
