Why was the thread title changed ? How is it remotely connected ?
Sometimes, I feel thread merging is overdone. Anyways, one wouldn't want to be a mod around here. :--)

Just to add bit of masala. Between 86-2002 when India did not win a single test outside sub cont we won these tests by memory. 1 in WI 87. 2 in Eng 87. Lords 92. Oval 92. Hamilton 93. Two more in NZ 94. Sydney 95. Oval and Lords 96. Durban 98. Another in NZ 2001. Old Trafford 2001. That's 14 by memory.

Between 2002-2012 we have been poor. NZ 2004. SA 2006. WI 2005. NZ 2009. Leeds 2010. Oval 2010. NZ 2011. WI 2011. Not bad for a poor team.

Losing a home series to the then minnows Sri Lanka in 1995 and then to Zimbabwe in '98..must have wiped out all those positives from the away wins, not to forget the never ending stories of bottle caps, marijuana, nails, fixing etc :P

To turn great cricketers into demigods. India in 1990s was the strongest team at home. There is a reason why Steve Waugh called India the final frontier. We always had good batsmen, our bowling specially Kumble and Srinath ensured we rarely lost at home. Plus Azhar as batsman-skipper was second to none. His performance, statistically or otherwise, would beat every other batsman who has skippered India, at home for sure. The naara is given buland awaaz by fanboys to show we were one man band and that man has been doing it for 2 decades. Err no..Definitely not at home.
we had awfully biased home umpires as well.. 2001 was an unparallelled series in terms of drama, but I wonder what'd been the case had there been UDRS around..

Right. Doesn't the title say "Away Tests we (India) should have won". Wonder why you didn't do what you are preaching.

Because pakis were brought into it by an Indian poster in #6.

Thread should only be merged if they are discussing the same topic in absolute terms like 'the color of the sky'. Not one discussing the color of the sky with the one discussing the color of the moon just because the moon is seen in the sky. On occasions, I have lost interest in a thread because of the merging. You post in a thread and next day you see it merged with something with tons of posts. Sometimes, it is like you go to Starbucks and take a table with a friend and next you see everyone having the same coffee asked to be seated at one particular table. What about my conversation with the friend, who could be having a slightly different version of coffee, but at least we were having fun at that table (one of the reasons to come to Starbucks)

In the 90s when India played away it was Sachin scoring 50% of the teams runs and India losing. Now people link Sachin 100s to losses... I didn't see most of this btw was too young but I have seen highlights/scorecards of games in 90s

On the away test that we should have won...I can list a good dozen since ganguly took over but the biggest culprits are Dravid and Dhoni, simply because they had an attack as well as batting line up to win a lot more matches in SA,Aus,Eng,NZ and in WI. The only serious screwup of Ganguly was Sydney 2004 but otherwise his tentativeness can be attributed to a decade of no overseas win. The biggest rut started with WI 2006 series (Dravid captain) and continued with 2011 WI series (3rd test was absolute shame)....I didn't expect India to be like Aussies of last decade but they missed golden chance to win series in SA and Aus which now looks like a distant dream.

Dravids brain fade also cost us a Test win in the 2007 Series vs Eng where he made 12 runs in gazillion balls. Earlier in 2006 he cost us the Mumbai test and a series Win opting to field after winning the toss against freakin England
But the people who are slow right from the beginning can never be blamed, you see. Its only players who slow down a tad towards there 100 (despite being fastest 80 to 100 convertors overall) that can be blamed for losses, for being selfish, etc

Under dravids short captaincy stint we won series in england, pak and westindies.I dont think we won any overseas test series under gangulys captaincy(9 of 21 wins came against bangla/zim).
