Can Jelly beans be used to tamper with the ball ?

On the 3rd day when India were batting well english fielders tried the jelly bean stunt. Now jelly beans have a sticky interior and most of the fielders had them, one could so easily get the sticky part on the ball and tamper with it. If the above is done then how does it affect the ball ?

All team have designated players who eat sugary/cough sweets during the day while fielding and spit on the ball with this sugar on the saliva to shine the ball up. Well known practice. Inzi in particlular always voulntereed to take this duty upon himself!

I dont think it affects the ball. It was done more as a fun thingy, though I for one can not see the funny side of it. What makes me wonder is that England were already on defensive, looking towards a daunting total. Why would they not put their heads together and keep the Indian lead to a minimum than indulge in such "fun"? I mean its one thing to enjoy life when you are on the up but completely different when you are being made to run ragged chasing the red cherry. xx

I dont think it affects the ball. It was done more as a fun thingy, though I for one can not see the funny side of it.

I ask because few yrs back dravid was found guilty of doing something similiar

Most players keep sweets such as jelly beans handy (I do too) as it provides the much needed carbos during a game. It's nothing new but what is new was throwing them around the ground.
