IMO..Gayle is a decent cricketer...but have no interest in WI. So he should take Symonds way. WI will do much better in the long run without Gayle. WI are so bottom in the ICC ranking.....& Gayle was with the team all along. What he did. WI will have to look at younger guys now & look at long run WICB can screw itself for depriving us of Gayle. He's the most powerful hitter right now with Sehwag and Watson. Wtf. And hasn't Gayle hit a couple of triple tons or so? How many other Windies have done that? Windies was down even before Gayle rose to the scene. Now you want to say even Lara didn't have WI cricket in mind? Screw WICB simple as that. Sammy is not a good Captain and that ottis gibson coach sound really corrupted the more I hear of him. Coaches are replaceable easily, talent like Chris Gayle is not.

Gayle wanted to play for IPL and was ready to skip it as long as he gets what IPL gave him last time around. Since Gayle wasnt auctioned WICB bit back.Soon IPL guys realised Gayle was available and WICB legally can not put a NOC on him, got him playing. In the mean time both the sides said whatever mirch masala media wanted..... I dont understand one thing. If it was case of maintaining discipline then how does one explains this.... WICB said that Gayle will be selected only after he meets WICB and clarifies whatever he said earlier on radio... Now chap has met, Clarified why he said what he said. They are saying to retract back... What guarantee is that WICB will be true to its words next time? For me Discipline issue is equally with WICB... Yea am having a hard time understanding this part aswell. Wtf do they mean by retract back? If I call you so-and-so and 5 minutes later I say ok nvm I retract it back, it dosen't make a difference in my book. What's done is done so move on (appoligise if needed) instead of acting like babies. Either way WICB has been treating Gayle like crap so what did they expect? BTW are the planning to go lower than BD and ZIM/IRE in ranking?

On Tuesday June 14th Chief Executive Officer of the WICB, Dr. Ernest Hilaire; Director of Cricket, Anthony Howard; Head Coach Ottis Gibson and Team Manager Richie Richardson met with Chris Gayle in Kingston. Gayle was accompanied by West Indies Players Association President and CEO Mr. Dinanath Ramnarine and WIPA Vice President Wavell Hinds at the meeting. The WICB team outlined to Gayle that the Board has had issues historically in communicating with him and establishing a productive working relationship. Exceptional efforts had been made, especially during his tenure as Captain, to establish that relationship. Gayle was previously written to by the Board about these issues. The issues include his social media announcements that he was taking a break from the game, that the Sri Lanka tour had been cancelled, among others. He demonstrated an unwillingness to engage the Board. This pattern of behaviour culminated with his widely publicized interview on KLAS radio in Jamaica. WICB is of the view that comments had a detrimental effect on the relationship with the West Indies Team Management, the WICB management and was unbecoming for a professional sportsman who would be desirous of playing within that same team environment. The Gayle team did not share this view and articulated their position that Gayle’s conduct was a response to how he felt the Board treated him and had tarnished his name and reputation. There was a frank exchange on the differing views. Gayle sought an explanation as to why he was not picked for the India Series. The WICB Team explained that: 1) The comments made by him in the KLAS interview had created much ill-will with Team Management and unless there was a settling of differences, it would be difficult to see how the parties could harmoniously function; 2) That WICB Management had to establish with him the necessity to respect rules and regulations and his willingness to engage, in a constructive manner, on matters which are of concern to him; 3) That the Selection Committee would have to meet with him to discuss issues relating to the Selection Criteria; 4) That the WICB Board of Directors would need to provide policy guidelines on how to handle players who for reasons other than fitness, or personal distress make themselves unavailable for selection but expect to be selected whenever they deem it necessary to make themselves available. After lengthy discussions the WICB’s team outlined that Dr. Hilaire would have to meet with the WICB Board of Directors and the Selection Committee to report on the discussions and establish the way forward having now had a frank and direct discussion with Gayle. As the Board Meeting is today Friday June 17th, it was proposed that the WICB Management would write Gayle after the meeting to outline the way forward. The meeting with Gayle ended in uncertainly though as Mr. Ramnarine insisted that the WICB has no business writing to players and under no circumstances should WICB be writing to Gayle or any player for that matter as it is his view that the players are not in the employ of the WICB. The Board of Directors will receive a Report from the CEO on the meeting with Gayle and the behaviour, actions and conduct of Mr. Ramnarine during the meeting with Gayle.

Sid Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 WICB offers to meet with Gayle to end standoff The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has written to Chris Gayle, stating it remains available to meet and resolve the latest impasse over his exclusion from the national team. Gayle wasn't picked for the series against India owing to differences with the board, including over a widely-publicised radio interview with KLAS Sports where he strongly criticised the WICB. The rift appeared to intensify after a heated meeting - which also involved West Indies Players' Association president Dinanath Ramnarine - on June 14 with the board, but both parties have since expressed a willingness to reconcile. In his letter to Gayle - a copy of which is with ESPNcricinfo - the WICB chief executive Ernest Hilaire wrote that the June 14 meeting failed as "the discussions were repeatedly diverted to peripheral issues instead of being focussed on finding a constructive solution to the matter before us". Hilaire offered to meet with Gayle again. "However, the Board does recognise your contributions to West Indies cricket and the value which you bring to a West Indies team; and remains available to meet with you, should you be willing to do so, so that we can bring some resolution to this matter. We await your response to discuss a mutually acceptable way forward." This follows a conciliatory approach taken by the WIPA, as expressed by its vice-president Wavell Hinds to ESPNcricinfo. "He [Gayle] is prepared to answer the charges as honestly as he can and if there is a need to say sorry, I think he will say sorry," Hinds had told ESPNcricinfo. "Where he feels firm and has strong substance to back up his claims he will stand by them. If there are claims he has made where he has been a little excessive he is prepared to put his hand up and say sorry." However, the board still sought an apology from Ramnarine for his alleged misbehaviour during the meeting on June 14. It also suggested the WIPA, in the event that an apology wasn't forthcoming, put forward another representative to engage with the board. "WIPA should either facilitate an apology to the CEO from Ramnarine, together with an "assurance/undertaking that he will not engage in any physical or verbal threats during meetings with representatives of the West Indies Cricket Board or identify alternative WIPA representatives to engage in meetings with the WICB," the board said in a press release. The board has already made it clear its differences with Gayle extend beyond his KLAS Sports interview. "The WICB team has outlined to Gayle that the board has had issues historically in communicating with him and establishing a productive working relationship," the board said.
