He thought that the risk of getting smashed in the face was less important than winning his team a place in the final so he took it off in the off-chance that it would improve his hitting. After Pakistan couldn't win he put it on again as the increased potential hitting would mean nothing and he was risking injury nothing essentially. I played cricket and that's why I was stumped. Once you have gotten used to the helmet it doesn't hinder you much and in fact taking it off feels different. Also, when you are not playing with a helmet at the back of your mind you are always looking for a short one, no matter what the situation. I haven't seen any difference while batting with or without a helmet. However I have played with only one pad towards end of the innings as you run faster with just one pad on compared to both. Maybe Akmal can try that sometime :haha:

Yup, lots of batsmen do but they don't ask for it when the match is over with 2 balls to go :giggle: That I've seen for the first time.

As it is, Lankans played some dirty tricks to avoid that ban..will the ICC take note and ban him now? If he is over the 5 overs (which he is for 30 minutes) then that is a serious breach. Since it's second offence in 12 months then that's suspension. imo It will be harsh, home final, probably his last. I don't think ICC are that cruel.

What your suggesting was to purposefully try and injure him, not a standard bouncer.

It takes away from the game as now the team is not able to play its best players and the outcome of the game may be decided due to the same. I would penalise the board a hefty fee such as 200% so that along with the team forefeiting its match fees even the board is made to feel the pinch. But I wouldn't ban a player.
