Ram Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Great to see the great man Kumble getting the recognition he richly deserves. :nice:
gaurav92 Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 It has to be Anil Kumble, what a legend :hatsoff:
kidnextdoor Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 The poll question is "who is India's best test winner?" has to be Laxman, Dravid and Sachin might have massed a lot of runs but no one has won more matches on his own than Laxman IMHO.....
bulbul Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 as expected - fell on deaf ears.. ok guru' date=' you know everything about test kirkut, numbers, stats and stuff.. there is nothing left for you to learn.[/quote'] Akshay, in your opinion who is the greatest test match winner for India ? why?
zen Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Akshay' date=' in your opinion who is the greatest test match winner for India ? why?[/quote'] He is incapable of answering that in the absence of super computer capable analysis .... And since Sachin is not, it is not right to discuss greatest contributor to wins because cricket is a team sport. You know Pele wouldn't have scored that many in the absence of his mates. It is not like we are comparing boxers or tennis players in singles ( you would need super analysis for doubles) :P What some folks fail to realize is that even though wins in team sports largely depend up on how strong your team is. There are players who play key roles. So even if Pele had played for India. You would know that he is a match winner, even though the win percentage may not be high .... Also some folks ignore that we are ranking platters based on past performances (knowns)
akshayxyz Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Akshay' date=' in your opinion who is the greatest test match winner for India ? why?[/quote'] check my answer.

In science / problem solving - first step is to understand the complexity of the problem. Which some of the arrogant and delusion-ed excel operators here are not willing to accept. To me, using excel/stats-guru for such stuff is like - using stone-age-tools to make aeroplanes. But then, on second thoughts - this exercise of finding "ATG", "match winners" etc.. does not solve any real world / critical problem.. best use I can think of is, some rudimentary cricket simulation game. So, perhaps I am wrong in spoiling their fun-party.. I should just let them masturbate to their keyboards, excels and whatever. Which is exactly what I will do now, until next time I see some other ridiculous logic and some free time at hand. P.S. Many times "I do not know - yet" is the best answer, instead of pretending/deluding-yourself to know. P.P.S I am not suggesting that one has to wait for the 'perfect solution'. But given the current technologies/algorithms/techniques available - excel/stats-guru filters are far from the best/most-honest way to solve this problem of finding "ATGs"/Match-winners - for whoever it matters.

akshayxyz Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 so you are just trolling here :winky: You are free to draw your conclusion. I am not saying I do not troll, but not always. (The way some people feel urge to show light to bhakts, similarly I do at times, when I see excel/stat-guru monkeys.)
zen Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Santa and Banta are on their way to hell and hit a fork with 3 roads Santa: Bhai, which road should we take Banta: I can't say Santa: there are 3 roads, I say let's take the middle one Banta: I can't say Santa: You must have an opinion? Banta: In the absence of maps and GPS, I can't say Santa: but we are lost anyways Banta: sometimes, it is better to say 'I can't say' in the absence of correct tools Santa: We know that the hell is straight and if we take the middle road than the chances of it going straight are more than the two roads to its sides Banta: But you can't say for sure. What if the middle road diverts further and one of the other two straightens Santa: So which road should we take. Banta: I can't say, I don't have a map or GPS Santa: if the middle road had to divert, why would we have 3 roads here? So the chances of the middle road not diverting are more. What would you say? Banta: I can't say Santa drives on .....
