Players with worse records than you imagine

Kumble. You might assume with his name, he must have great records. But averages 30 in both ODI and test which is very disappointing for a bowler who is said to one of the best ever. That is on par with Darren Sammy.

If you start using exemptions and any kind of if & then case analysis, suddenly every player can be seen as good. The truth is Kumble averages does not stands out and definitely he is not the good bowler many here assume he is.

Raina's ODI record
His role has changed in recent years. He generally has to come in and be aggressive from the off. His knocks in the WC quarter finals and Semi-finals prove his class as an ODI player (particularly in the SC)

But that does not mean he is world class? The difference between the good spinners such as Murali and little above average spinners such as Kumble is huge. So, maybe he does not deserve praise that many say on he is a great spinner.

Yes, at least over the last 10 years. Kumble is a grade down, there is no argument about that.

His average looks lower than I expected it to be because he is normally unbeaten at the end of an innings.

It's good when you think he pretty much bowled from one end alone throughout his career.

:woot: Shouldn't being unbeaten increase the average? :hmmm:
