msb1991 Posted April 21, 2012 Posted April 21, 2012 For people calling Ajmal as a chucker' date=' you need to "scientifically" prove he straightens his arm more than 15 degrees. If not, we need to put up with him. Simple as that.[/quote'] But we all agree that Samuels takes the piss, right? Because there is giving the benefit of the doubt (Ajmal) and then there is someone who just throws it!

Because there is giving the benefit of the doubt (Ajmal) and then there is someone who just throws it![/quote'] I don't. Not guilty, till proven. For all purposes, Samuels is reported for a 'suspect' action. Extensive biomechanical tests need to be performed to show he's chucking.
Yoda-esque Posted April 21, 2012 Posted April 21, 2012 Murali was a chucker ,no doubt what all those rules say..See his leg spin bowling action;Clean as a whistle. -UUXgc1rLMQ
Crookbond Posted April 21, 2012 Posted April 21, 2012 To judge whether an action is clean or not scientific evidence has proved you require to be at three positions at the same time during the release of the ball. So no 2D video analysis can reveal who's chucking and who's not. The "carry angle" leads to some illusion to the eye. Unless you are Flash or one of the members of the X-men I don't see that happening. http://www.msscentershop.info/content/44/6/420.abstract

I guess making claims with the naked eye, no matter how certain, put me in the same company as idiots - so yeah, fair enough.

You can say that his action is 'suspicious'. Unfortunately, no human eye is trained enough to be sure that a bowler is chucking.

Swing_n_Speed Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 An observation: Why do these chuckers run up, then do the hop n skip and then deliver. I mean, only when u bowl with a straight arm do u need momentum to create velocity. Now take a look at baseball, where they actually bend their arms. They dnt need to run, then hop n skip and then deliver? They merely stand and deliver. Watching Hafeez bowl, you notice just before delivery he pauses for a brief second. That brief second is my opinion will destroy any arm momentum generated. Thus at the point of delivery, Hafeez generates his force entirely from a bent arm action. The same would hold true for other chuckers as well. This is just a hunch and I hope not too confusing. And yea Ranatunga has totally destroyed the game. And he has the audacity to say he feels sorry for Indian cricket.Hypocrite!
achilles Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 Whatever he may have turned into today, I respect Arjuna for his captaincy and the way he backed his players. It takes guts and nerves of steel to back your player when the entire world is up in arms against him. Arjuna did that and I think a player who could come a close second in backing players is Ganguly.

There are thousands of way a human eye is fooled and its certainly the least reliable thing when it comes to judging bowling actions http://listverse.com/2007/09/16/20-amazing-optical-illusions/ http://listverse.com/2007/12/09/another-10-amazing-optical-illusions/

You need to justify this claim. I can post the opposite. Also, an important point to note is - We are talking about using the human eye to detect whether an arm bends beyond 14 degrees. For this particular scenario at least, the human eye isn't trained.

Crookbond Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 But issue why have a 15 degree rule. It only encourages chucking. What should the rule be then?
rkt.india Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 What should the rule be then? no bend..simple...any bend will lead to chucking..
msb1991 Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 no bend..simple...any bend will lead to chucking.. Research was also undertaken during the ICC Champions Trophy in England, where it was found that 13 of the 23 bowlers filmed straightened their arms more than the current permissible levels. Ramnaresh Sarwan, he of the fairly innocuous legspin, was the only man observed who didn't straighten his arm at all. http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/story/141558.html
rkt.india Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/story/141558.html I Know and I know that this whole report was a hoopla to save Murli.
fuub Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 if human eye is good enough to decide on lbws its good enough to decide who is a chucker.
Crookbond Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 I Know and I know that this whole report was a hoopla to save Murli. Conspiracy theory ...! Please check this link and read it carefully - http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16939154 If you want to disprove a scientific argument, you need to do it using proper science. Blanket statements only mean conspiracy theories. Btw, I wonder why CA wanted to save Murali considering they are vehemently against chucking.
Crookbond Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 no bend..simple...any bend will lead to chucking.. Everyone bends, so all bowlers chuck.
