Crookbond Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Not overnight, since 2004. It's a lot of hard-work, creativity and stealing coming to fruition.

Lurker Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 ^^ Big Data is going public this year too. Better join (the bandwagon)
Lurker Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 I think theyll get acquired in 6-12 months. That may happen too. Depending on how much one is willing to shed though. Not every company has the mullah to make acquisitions right now.

Lurker Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 yea but they are quite hot but way over priced.. maybe i shouldt talk about it on public forums No you shouldnt. Just as I am keeping mum about my own company :--D dont be a smartass and name it now :--D Back to FB now, market capitalization is 100B which is still amazing for a company that hardly creates anything, or has huge profit behind it. Even if it stays around 100B it would have been a huge success.
The Outsider Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Facebook caters to the lowest common denominator of human beings in providing a convenient way to socialize beyond geographic boundaries. Whether Facebook continues to grow at a rapid pace or not, the social networking concept is not going to come to an end. In all likelihood, Facebook will continue to be the major player in the segment for at least 8-10 years by virtue of it's size and acquiring any potential competition and it won't be completely crazy to see the stock price touch $150 over the next 5-6 years. I would say it's a pretty good investment.
Prakat Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 I think fb has seen its best. It's on its downward slope in its lifecycle. its biggest markets now in terms of numbers come from Asia, mostly India and China which are not being serviced by advertising revenue proportionally. So its profit centers, the US and Europe are saturated and its biggest market potential is in places where it can't monetize quickly enough for it to be proportionally profitable. Basically it's profit per user is going to tank sharply in the next five years. What I think has happened is that the smart money has already sold its stock in the company. And the IPO is a way for it to do exactly that. Time to see if this will be a flaming spectacle like Vonage.
Crookbond Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 http://blogs.smartmoney.com/paydirt/2012/05/18/psychoanalyzing-facebooks-like-button/ A slew of recent studies found the site causes some people to become depressed. And a new paper contends the site appeals to people with far more serious psychiatric problems. A bit tangential but quite pertinent in the bigger picture.
jairamesh Posted May 18, 2012 Author Posted May 18, 2012 Last year FB made a profit of $1billion. tomato ketchup company HJ Heinz with a market cap of $17b, made a profit of around $1.5b!. I am no financial boffin or spin doctor, but by that logic FB needs to grow profits over 500% annually to match it's valuation! it is crazies...which feckers investing in FB???:hehe:
