He said it is time for widespread application of the Information and Digital Technology for the empowerment of people at an affordable cost. Addressing the valedictory function of National Digital Summit held under the aegis of Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) in New Delhi through videoconferencing from Gandhinagar, he said it is also time for enhancing research and development in new technology to ensure they did not create obstacle in law-and-order or in policy decisions. Expressing serious concern at the growing adverse impact of imported electronic goods and products on the Indian economy, he said that India’s Current Account Deficit (CAD) has reached at an alarming stage. He exhorted digital savvy Indian youth to take up the challenge to make India digitally strong and make India an exporter of electronic goods. There is need to encompass the entire India under digital technology, as a large number of small and medium sized towns and the North-East region still remained uncovered. There is need for the Central and State Governments to jointly create corpus fund with IT companies for research. Mr. Modi pointed out that Indian companies, already ahead in software technology, should develop innovative transparent delivery system – in redressing grievances, good governance, and transparent administration for the welfare of the people in a democratic setup – as has been successfully implemented in Gujarat. The future of India will be decided by the extent of optical fiber and wi-fi network. It turns out the public chorus in agreement with Modi was no ordinary one; experienced political observers affirmed that the gatherings in Imphal and Guwahati on Saturday were among the largest witnessed; in Assam since the 1980s when the anti-foreigner agitation was on; and, in Imphal, at one lakh plus, the biggest ever. This, when the saffron party is yet to make its presence felt in Assam and the surrounding provinces. In Assam, BJP has four MPs and five MLAs, and none MP in Manipur yet. In the 2012 assembly polls, it drew a blank in the 60-member House. In 2000 and 2002 Manipur assembly elections, BJP had won six and four seats. Seemingly impressed by the huge turnout, Modi said during his speech in Guwahati, "Jahan bhi dekho, maathey hi maathey nazar aa rahe hain (Wherever you turn, you see only heads)." By conservative estimates, the turnout at the rally at the College of Veterinary Science ground in Guwahati, was between one and 1.5 lakh. Assam BJP spokesman Shiladitya Dev claimed the number was 2.5 lakh. "People in Assam, as in other parts of the country, want change from Congress rule at the Centre and in the state. They're aware of the development Gujarat has seen under Modi and it's natural that they should want to see and hear him," Dev said. Imphal, which rarely gets to see turnouts higher than 20,000, surprised itself by recording the largest gathering ever for a speech by a national-level leader. "In our earlier poll rallies, the maximum turnout was 20,000. Saturday's rally was attended by about one lakh people. It's a Modi wave," Manipur BJP secretary L Bashanta Sharma said. According to sociologist Chandan Sarmah, Modi overshadowed his party and it was his personality that was the crowd-puller. As in other parts of the country, people in Assam and Manipur are desperately looking for someone who can deliver, he said. "The countrywide wave has been triggered by the belief that Modi can deliver. The Hindi bits of his speech, however, went over the heads of those who did not know the language, leaving them scurrying around afterwards, asking the ‘Hindiwallahs’ what Modi had said. “I don’t follow politics, but I know Narendra Modi is really popular. My father is very sure he will be the next Prime Minister. So, it was great seeing him in person. It was also a great speech, especially when he got very expressive while speaking in Hindi. No wonder he is so popular,†said S Divya, who received her degree at the convocation. While some like Divya understood what Modi spoke about, thanks to their knowledge of Hindi, others were piqued. “The English parts of his speech were clear cut. I don’t know Hindi, so I didn’t understand what he said. But he seemed a lot more at ease and seemed to be making his point in a way that was getting everyone to laugh,†said Ramesh Babu. “I found a classmate who is from Andhra Pradesh, and he explained to me what Modi had said,†he added. Modi exhorted the youth in his speech, telling to adopt the mantra of ‘speed, skill and scale’ in the vision of their contribution to India’s progress. He also told the graduates of the private varsity that they should endeavour to do their bit for the progress of all those of their age group who were unable to get access to any form of education. Further, he asked the students not to hide arrogantly behind their degrees, but to ensure they were skilled enough. These three points, apart from making an impact on the students, seemed to have made a deeper cut on the minds of some parents. “We shifted from Surat to Bhopal only two years ago. So, we have heard Modiji speaking enough times. But, this was different. Back home, his speeches are usually political. This one was completely devoid of politics because it was aimed at students,†said Keshav Shukla, who had travelled to Chennai to see his nephew collect his engineering degree. Irrespective of Modi’s speech and its message to the students, the zeitgeist seemed to be catching up like a fever in the monsoon. Immediate comparisons were made between Modi’s speech and Congress princeling Rahul Gandhi’s recent, widely panned television inderview. “I used to be against Modi because of all the things I read about him and the riots. But, there was a certain knowledge and clarity in his speech. It is one of the six upcoming urban infrastructure projects in the country selected by KPMG. The firm has also named $ 90 billion Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC), as an innovative global infrastructure project - Gujarat has more than 30 per cent share in the project. The riverfront project is being perceived as one that aims to improve environmental conditions of the city. The project also involves the reclamation of a 10.5 km stretch of the river banks for creating public spaces for cultural and civic institutions. Moreover, the riverfront will make more space available for recreational use and traditional markets. "The aim is to transform the stretch of the river from a geographical divider in the city to a focal point for leisure," read a release by KPMG. KPMG's Global Infrastructure Practice also appreciated the DMIC project as one of the 100 most innovative and also an inspiring urban infrastructure projects in the world. The DMIC aims to meet challenges like the increase of migration towards cities from villages and that of providing new ventures for employment by creating a globally competitive environment along with world-class infrastructure. KPMG believes that the mega project will jive up local commerce and encourage foreign investment, create employment opportunities, enhance exports and attain sustainable development, claims KPMG India. UITP is the international association of public transport. AJL-AMC and Cept University jointly received an award in the category of "UITP India Political Commitment Award" and "Design Award for BRTS." Cept University has designed the BRTS in the city. The award was accepted by Arjav Shah, deputy municipal commissioner and Shivanand Swamy, executive director, Cept University. Shah is also the transport manager of BRTS. The award was given by Peter Hendy, president, UITP. Ahmedabad Janmarg Ltd has won many accolades for the implementation of a sustainable BRTS operation in the past. AJL has 67 km operational route with 136 buses (including 35 AC buses) and gets about 1.30 lakh passengers on an average per day. The BRTS has so far received several awards. Among those received by the government of India include "Best Mass Transit Rapid System Project - 2009" and an "Award for Excellence in the category of Best ITS Project - 2011" and "Best Innovation Project Towards Improvement in Urban Mobility in the City of Ahmedabad through New Technological Innovations in Janmarg BRTS - 2010." A Hindustan Times report has claimed that US ambassador to India Nancy Powell will meet the Gujarat Chief Minister later this week. The report says that a US embassy spokesman has confirmed the appointment. The report suggests that the meeting, likely to be held in Gandhinagar, can take place on February 14 or 15. Reports suggest, however, that the US cannot offer a visa to Modi during the election campaign, as it might be accused of trying to influence Indian domestic politics. It has said in the recent past that he is free to apply for a visa, like any other applicant. The European Union and Britain had lifted their ban on Modi in 2013. The USA had first declined Narendra Modi a diplomatic visa in 2005. scorpio90 Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 @Sachin=God You are also forgotteing that it was BJD who broke the alliance with Patnaik being under the influence of a minister who later on led a coup against him and was thrown out when the coup failed. The same guy is now a congress functionary. Only difference between Patnaik and Nitish is that while the former saved himself, Nitish was taken for a ride by Congress and then dumped to face bleek electoral prospects.
