Well' date=' if it is with you, you would just be complaining from any seat Modi contests. [b']If he did only Gujarat, you would be saying the same. Pointless debating with you then. Nevertheless, the reason is very clear, a strategic decision and if you don't agree with that, not sure what will.
no. That would have been much better - he is from Gujarat so he should contest only from there. No need to come to other states - and if he does come to other states then at least show some guts and contest form a tough seat to really show that he is a "national" leader.

Modi should have a very safe seat. Silly to go for risky seat We all know Varanasi is major place for Hindus and that UP is major key to winning majority for any party. Right choice, as also makes him look non gujurat centric

S!=G, you can comment whatever you want , but BJP is in this position for this election is mainly because of Modi, you may disagree but its the reality. Also i think some of the old guard rubbed him wrong intitally , obviously in politics when some one raises some one else has to fall. Any way MM now got a seat atleast,he is not dumped totally :two_thumbs_up:

:giggle:. You are now only contradicting yourself. And certainly you do not know anything about guts. If you are talking about national leader, you need to ask that to Rahul or Sonia who are only doing from 1 particular seat. Modi on other hand is doing a place away from his home state in his first national elections. That's already very gutsy. Does Modi's detractors have similar courage and can contest from Gujarat?

Modi from Varanasi: Part of strategy or desperate move?

Narendra Modi plays his most crucial card finally, deftly and subtly. The symbolic value of his choice of Varanasi – home to temples, spiritualism, old world Hinduism and political Hindutva as well - is hard to miss. After working hard to dissociate himself from the image of a Hindutva hard liner all these years and running a long election campaign on the agenda of development and governance, he could not have afforded to be explicit about the reason behind his choice. But the message that goes out is clear: he has not abandoned the Sangh Parivar universe, and he still banks heavily on it for votes.

what is with this safe seat issue man...this is a risky move IMO...he is fighting from an unknown territory... if there no Modi wave as opposition call it...he will be loosing and nobody would like the PM candidate to lose...and better thing now is he has given challenge to AK as he would never have guts to fight an election in Gujarat against Modi...now Modi vs Kejri will very well show the mood of people...very interesting times ahead...

Lol, with moronic statements like this:
Surveys say with its best efforts the BJP may secure maximum 40 seats out of the total 80 in UP, while it could end up with 20 of Bihar’s 40 seats. This is bad news for a party claiming to be riding a wave.
The article loses credibility, but didn't expect anything worthwhile from a pro-Congress journo.

BJP gaining. Is it Modi wave or anti-Congress tsunami?

Opinion polls suggest the BJP will win 195-220 seats in the Lok Sabha polls. If winning 200 seats is the sign of a wave, can it be argued retrospectively that there was a Manmohan Singh tsunami in 2009? Just five years ago, the Congress tally had crossed 200 even without the prime minister bothering to contest the polls. If all that the BJP achieves after so much noise, fury and Varanasi is a tally identical to the UPA’s, the very existence of a Narendra Modi wave would be questioned.

There is of course a strong anti-congress sentiment, that was fuelled initially by the scams, CAG, IAC, etc. If Modi wasn't heading the BJP, I believe AAP would have been the major beneficiary of this anti-congress sentiment in the coming LS elections. Regarding a Modi wave: I would say that the country has been divided into two. People who are being swept by, or are riding the Modi wave, and others who are creating Dams to contain the wave. Given Modi's reputation and his lack of acceptance among the 15-20% of India's Muslims, the BJP would find crossing 272 very difficult irrespective of a wave, which wasn't the case with Congress in 2009.
