he was alive and PM when he made that statement
So? How is that relevant in the current context? If we elected mofos ( Raghav, please note it's in yuppie English) we continue to elect mofos?

what is this supposed to justify?
nothing much..just pointing which "riot" got sensationalized the maximum and which party witnessed the most... just because the administers of the then riots may not be presently in active politics, these riots pretty much are out of mind..

and it was a disgusting statement. But how does this justify the Gujrat riots or Modi's elevation?
why would it justify Modi's elevation? Both are separate issues. Im just responding to Outy's response to someone

No, it was completely out of context. Rajiv Gandhi is dead. Modi is a PM candidate. The administration involved in the riots, someone pointed out is long gone. The Gujarat administration and it's main characters are all in active politics. In short, it's a rubbish analogy in the context of the upcoming elections.

to each his own, but I dont see why you think its out of context. Rajiv Gandhi was alive when he made that statement and he was PM as well. If you think both are separate and have nothing to do with each other, then I think thats a biased stand.

Ill post this video again for the phseculars . I know it will be discounted and mocked, but nonetheless here is the video of Narendra Modi making an appeal for peace on 28th February 2002, which was broadcasted on Doordarshan. Translation in English is there on the bottom for all those who dont understand Gujarati, but I know his detractors will spin it against him and still hold him responsible and come up with ridiculous arguments. For all those interested in serious discussion, please watch the whole video. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIRMR8zW0iI]CM Narendra Modi's appeal Telecasted on Doordarshan - YouTube[/ame]

On the other hand you criticize Rajiv Gandhi and praise Modi for the same actions and I have a biased stand?

must say it takes a special kind of talent to come up with such utter BS :hatsoff:
Such a lazy response. Disappointed, thought you were a better poster. Seems like you got an "outside" influence.:winky:

When did Modi justify the 2002 riots?

We are still stuck on why he should not be the BJP's PM candidate, the very essence with which this thread started (just read the first page of the thread)?. Now he's nearly there, his tainted past notwithstanding. Like it or not, the BJP sees him as their best bet to maximize own seats and has gone ahead with the feelings of its mass cadre and not by what op-ed writers suggested. From 'Modi is a non factor nationally', even his opponents are now saying he will be a factor. See the demands by SP and BSP to ban his aide Amit Shah from entering UP. Everyday you see hordes of leaders attacking him in unison, such a situation suits him when it becomes Modi vs the rest, a sort of a presidential style election. It does lead to a polarization and such a situations works for the BJP too. Last two national elections have lacked emotive issues which makes the BJP (RSS) cadre work tirelessly on the ground. This election gives them that opportunity and gives the BJP their best bet to reach or cross its tally of 182 during the Atal era. If they play their cards well, pick right candidates and go to the election with the right issues and messages (hindutva, development, strong leadership), 116 can become 180 or more. Post poll scenario may turn out to be different but the general thinking is tabki tab dekhi jayegi.

Yeah' date=' and I suppose the people involved in that administration are PM candidates in the next general election? Talk about throwing one red herring after another.[/quote'] So firstly you do admit that have inadequate knowledge on history. So you cannot give justice to those victims just because person X is no longer alive. The victims have no right to ask justice just because for you it is old and many involved are no longer present. Really? And I salute to your logic and you of course will win in this irrational debate.

Maybe, you should start a campaign seeking justice for the Nellie victims and against the biggest communal party, Congress on the biggest anti Muslim riot in India. Let me know when you have done that.

Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Yes, there are no official records for the quote, but neither are there for Rajiv Gandhi's.
then would it be fair to discount both if there is no evidence?
