ye most of times these gr8 bowlers for some reason are not able to coach properly :dontknow:
The reason is most of the gr8 bowlers have enornous talent and they had unique ability to train themselves in addition to any additional help they received. When these bowlers become coaches they often do not know the limitations faced by bowlers with lesser natural talent. The training methods used by genuises often do not work for lesser mortals. A proper coach, on the other hand knows how to get the best out of whatever potential the bowler has.

Hire a local coach for the entire year. This is stupid.
They already have local coach in Senthilnathan after TA Shekhar left MRF. McGrath should be a good person there.

I would love to see Fannie De Villiers or Ian Pont in some capacity as a bowling coach in India.
Pont is with Haryana and doing a brilliant job by all accounts with Harshal Patel, Mohit Sharma, and Joginder Sharma on his comeback from missing the season. Can't see MRF luring him away.

Between Donald and Mgrath I hope it is Donald for reasons he was a fast bowler not a medium fast as MGRATH for most of his career also Donald has coachin experience and what he says make sense.

We already have too many cut ur pace down, line and length MGRATH wannabe trundlers ala Munaf, Mithun, MGRATH ALWAYS KNOWN FOR IDIOTIC COMMENTS AND PREDICTIONS, NOT THE BRIGHTEST BULB AROUND, Donald was a fast bowler with qualities that most Indian bowlers lack, also he bowled very well in test's , out and out strike bowler, bowled well in the channel, has good coaching experience, most importantly called Sreesanth an idiot lol:two_thumbs_up:

You're talking as if coaches turn bowlers into who they were. If that was the case, we would've had about 10 Kapil Dev's and 5 Gavaskar's by now. It just doesn't work that way.

Coaches can never manufacture bowlers. They can provide valuable insights into how to maximize your potential, teach some additional skills and refine some of your innate skills. Unless the bowler himself has the right termperament, motivation and talent required to succeed, no coach can help him. Imagine the relationship between the teacher and the student at school - and imagine the role of the teacher. The teacher cannot do anything by himself unless the student cooperates with him.

I guess McGrath is a great choice.

Imagine the relationship between the teacher and the student at school - and imagine the role of the teacher. The teacher cannot do anything by himself unless the student cooperates with him.[/quote'] India needs a fast bowling icon: Ian Pont http://www.thehindu.com/sport/cricke...cle2049196.ece Among his victims on debut for Essex were Viv Richards and Ian Botham, stalwarts of Somerset county cricket. Ian Pont blushes when requested to take a peep into the past when he made waves as a fast bowler on the English circuit. It is just memory now. But his passion for the game has continued. He is one of the most sought after coaches for fast bowling. His latest stint was with Bangladesh until the 2011 World Cup. Pont would never have imagined spending five days in Corbett, not sighting tigers, but honing fast bowlers at a camp organised by the Haryana Cricket Association (HCA). AMAZING FACILITIES Ūt was such a pleasant experience, the 49-year-old Englishman confessed. A call from the HCA secretary, Anirudh Chaudhary, saw Pont take the first flight to Delhi and off he was to Corbett. ŵhe facilities were amazing. A cricket ground in the middle of mountains, with great nets, good length run-ups. And the discipline of the players is unique to India. Ūn England, kids can get bored quickly because the pace of life is quite fast. I found the camp here very organised and well structured, said Pont, who has guided Shoaib Akhtar and Dale Steyn at critical stages of their career. But he lists the grooming of Catherine Dalton as his best advertisement. żB]She started at 80 kmph and is now bowling 128.Ǽ/B] Pont is convinced that India has the potential to unearth four of five bowlers who could bowl at 150 kmph consistently. He was impressed by the raw talent he saw at the camp. Å´ome had good action, I worked on the technical aspects and tried to keep it simple. If only India had a fast bowling icon, Pont insisted, there would have been a surfeit of speedsters. źour icons are mostly batsmen. It is different in Pakistan. There, most kids want to bowl fast. DISPARITY Pont drives home the point that there is a disparity when dealing with bowling and batting. As a coach, he observes, ÅÃatting is about technique where you won't let a kid bat wrongly. But you allow a young bowler to bowl as he wants as long as the line and length is fine. You don't want to change the bowling action but would quickly spot a batting technique error and insist on changing it quickly. That is the disparity I have seen as a coach. I don't think fast bowlers are born. Are doctors or engineers born? Known to work with fast bowlers, Pont believes the most important requisite for a fast bowler is the ÃÔize' of his heart. Ťontrolling the cricket ball is so important. I can give Steyn's example. In the sub-continent, he realised swing was more important. So, he looked to swing and took ten wickets in a Test (at Nagpur in 2010). Fast bowling is not just about banging it into the keeper's gloves. ARTISTRY ŵhere is an art to it and this World Cup saw some very smart fast bowling. We saw yorkers, slower ones, slow bouncers, bouncers, back of the hand stuff, wide of the stumps, there was great variation. That is fast bowling to me. For Pont, the ideal fast bowler is Brett Lee. Å©e is a line and rhythm bowler, correct biomechanics positions, timing, consistency, can swing the ball late, always in the right bowling position between the white lines. To me, coaching skills are very important. If the youngster wants to study intensely, nothing can stop him from achieving his goals.

A icon would be a good option to have, but not needed. There has to be a first, and somebody has to become that icon. Whom did Kapil Dev have for icon, in a spin centric nation? Whom did Imran have? They chalked out their own destinies. Somebody needs to step in, and not wait for icons to emerge out of nowhere.

Kids need to grow up wanting to be pace bowlers. India has no icons of pace.. Pakistan has many.

Allan Donald any day over MGrath, no coaching experience what so ever and also seems more close to G Chappel mentality and also known for his stupid predictions, obnoxious behavior.

Was Srinath not a good icon in 90s? What about Zaheer in 2000s .

Does Mcgrath have any coaching credentials?? Being a great bowler and being able convey tips to young bowlers is two different things.

"Zaheer [Khan], Javagal Srinath and Venkatesh Prasad would top the list," Lillee said, talking about the bowlers who trained with him. "Munaf Patel, to me, has been a disappointment. He had the natural gift of speed but someone has obviously misguided him to drop pace. S Sreesanth, too, is a big let down, for the talent he showcased ..."
Lillee has been pretty much a failure imo. In 25 years, his best bowlers were Zaheer, Srinath, and Prasad??! wtf! 25 years of mediocrity more like it. Any other country with such resources would have had a conveyor belt of quality fast bowlers coming out. So either the Lillee as coach a dud or entire set-up just isn't good enough. 25 years = Zaheer, Srinath, Prasad. :headshake:
